Canada I'm going to Montreal next week, what blu-ray stores should I go to and what to buy?

I'm going to Montreal next week, what blu-ray stores should I go to and what to buy?

Any recommendations for stores with used blu-rays as well?

The only Canadian blu-rays that I can think of buying are:

BON COP, BAD COP
MORTAL KOMBAT

I was going to buy the EQUILIBRIUM blu-ray until I realized that the Canadian blu-ray is in the wrong aspect ratio - so I'm not going to get that.

Are there any recommended French films on Canadian blu-ray that have English subtitles (in which the French DVD/blu-ray do not have English subtitles) ?

wait, forget about Bon Cop, Bad Cop. Is it true that there are not English subtitles for the french dialogue? I'm not buying it if I only understand half of this film.

Future shop/best buy, HMV, Archambault.

The best French dialogue movie with english subtitles i can think of is ''Crazy''. Unfortunately the TVA film release is only a 1080i transfer
But the movie is great.

''Bon cop bad cop'' is a popular film, but i personally hated it :/

You can check for the canadian release of ''From dusk till dawn''. Grest PQ and AQ imo.

It looks like I will only be buying Mortal Kombat then! ha! I couldn't stand C.R.A.Z.Y - that was the second Canadian DVD I ever bought (the first was the 3-disk Brotherhood of the Wolf Canadian DVD).

NO! Haha, sorry, but people need to read forum posts properly. English subtitles are provided for the film (why wouldn't they be?). Only thing is, the sub track is for ALL dialogue, including french & english. There's an option for 'french subs on english dialogue', but for some reason no track for 'english subs for french dialogue'.

It's a fine disc & I must recommend it!

its open matte, so you are not missing anything (except for the special effects shots, which are cropped)

also, for $8 i wouldnt be too picky about aspect ratio, have fun waiting until the US release :P

I haven't been to Montreal for a couple of years but I always go to Metro Video. It is underground but it's pretty easy to find. There's a huge english movie theatre on St. Catherines Street ( I think it's Famous Players but I could be wrong ) It's in a mall next door and down an escalator. They have the best selection I've found in Montreal but one the natives might know more than me.
If it interests you I would recommend Shwartz Deli (the street escapes me right now) The smoked meat sandwich is out of this world.

This is what I do almost every week HMV (corner Peel and St-Cathrines), one block east Metro video, right underneath the Scotia bank theatre /Simons store diagonaly from taht corvner a few blocks east and you have Future Shop. This way you can find out which one has the movie(s) you want for cheaper. it is less then 10m walk between the three.

As for movies, hard to say without knowing tastes. But I have
The rocket (Maurice Richard) http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0460505/
Cruising bar 2 http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1166094/
Dans une galaxie près de chez vous (1&2 are together) http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0385635/
Pour toujours, les Canadiens! http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1295912/

also not Canadian but since your Avatar ins Tintin you might be interested in
Astérix aux jeux olympiques http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0463872/

It's a dangerous route (as in expensive ) but it's a lot of fun to go blu shopping. HMV has the biggest and best selection of blu-ray in Montreal (not the cheapest though) but all the alliance titles are super cheap there. There's also a futureshop at Atwater/St-Catherine so you can start there as well.

Dammit, I was in Montreal last summer but did not know about Metro Video... Ah well.

Not movie related, but yes, you MUST go to Schwartz's Deli.

Thanks for the info, and I want to go to Shwartz Deli too! Speaking of movie theaters, are most movie theaters dubbed into French there?

I'm gonna try that route! thanks! And yeah, I have that Asterix movie (the worst one). Speaking of Asterix, I have all of the Tintin and Asterix live-action and cartoon movies/tv shows. But how about Lucky Luke? Is there a Canadian box set of the Lucky Luke cartoon show (the 80s show, not the 90s one)?

And any other special food recommendations? I have reservations already for Au Pied de Cochon for the foie gras!

As do I. It may not be the proper ratio, but you honestly wouldn't know it when watching. Looks great & is totally worth the $8 HMV is selling it for.

That goes for both the Canadian and English versions? Just got mine and i'm not even sure which copy I got. It came in the thicker case sold in England and has the English ratings but it has the Canadian cover.

simple way to check:

Canadian release has a DTS-HD 5.1 soundtrack, the UK release only has Dolby Digital 5.1.

but im pretty sure both versions have the same (open-matted) aspect ratio

Sounds like the UK edition just by the case, unless you got it used from Roger's Video... And yes, both UK & CDN versions ar open-matte, only the Japan edition is 2.35:1.

I am sure there are other places. Plus it will depend where he is going to be in Montreal. But the forum store is a bit farther then the DT store and I included the DT futurshop. In the end these are the three stores that visit on a regular basis (practically every week) because if you work DT with 1/2h at lunch there is time to go to all three and price match before deciding where to buy. And let's face it, you need to shop around here, some times they have the same price but other times they can be real expensive in one place while cheap in the other. And you don't know who will be cheap and who will be expensive.
