I don't believe in the theory of evolution all that much neither. Because the fact is that the large majority of species that ever existed on Earth are extinct. Why? Because they couldn't evolve and adapt to new changes, or because each species were created as is?
But, consider the that fact that ancient forms of life on this planet (phototrophs and organotrophs) still exist and haven't changed much. Yet from them evolved the large diversity of life. Even if some cataclysmic event should occur in the future and wipes out 100% of all modern life, the ancient lifeforms will likely survive and kick start the evolutionary process all over again. It happened before and it's likely to happen again.

Check this forum out: http://www.alien-ufos.com Very entertaining stuff, especially the 'Personal UFO or Alien Experiences or Alien Dreams' section. Some of these stories are hilarious. Gotta love our God (or alien!) given imaginations.

But see that's what I'm saying. If some species evolves from a particular species, why does that original species still hang around? I mean, how unlucky is that original species in that it didn''t evolve itself.

The only way I can see evolution working and still maintain the original species, is if there's just a slight mutation in the genes within the offspring.

And really, one of the things discussed in this series is the creation of life on Earth itself. Did it evolve from microbes that were naturally occuring, or was it transplanted here via space rock or some other method?

What makes you think that is possible? Wouldn't that require a wormhole? Doesn't a wormhole take almost an infinite amount of energy to keep open? You have to keep the thing from collapsing or whatever is traveling in it is doomed.

No. Lindsey Lohan keeps hers open 24/7 using nothing more than common alcohol.

For all we know there could be an infinite amount of energy in just one of the million galaxies. We have a limited capacity to understand the infinite universe. We can only stagger along with the limits that science presents us at this time in our brief existence on this planet.

Love this show, it's finally gotten my friends to start listening to me a little more closely as I've been trying to explain these things to them for years. This show does a much better job of presenting things than I do.

They all used to just call me a godless heathen, and they were right of course but still....

Last thing I want to do is bash anyone's religion and all but the whole God thing is so three hundred years ago.

According to Michio Kaku

Class 1 civilization = Harness the power of their local sun (ex. Buck Rodgers)

Class 2 civilization = Harness the power of their galaxy (ex. Star Trek)

Class 3 civilization = Harness the power of the universe (ex. The Empire)

I would imagine the universe's power can sustain such a hole.

Class 0 civilization = harness the power of fossil fuels (ex. Earth)

I've seen all the episodes of it's 1st season (the season ended last night) and I thought it was a great show.

Is a season two on deck for next year? I hope so. I am a sucker for this type of programming. I pre-ordered the BD set the day it was listed.

I hope so too! If these damn "reality" show with all their dancing and singing can go on for season after season after season, at least Ancient Aliens can get another season, if not three.! I hope so!

Even traveling at light speed those alien life forms would have to be able to live for a long time. For instance, the closest star system to us is Alpha Centauri, which is over 4 light years away. 4 light years doesnt seem like a long time but if you travel to that spot going at the speed of the fastest spacecraft we have, it would take 19,000 years, and even going 1% of the speed of light (which is still well beyond anything we can currently dream about) it would take 435 years. Intelligent life would have to be very close because if they are coming from let's say 100 light years, they would have to be damn near immortal to make that journey.
No far enough apart that by the time you are advanced enough to do it then you are advanced enough to have your $hit together. We already know about the possibility of wormholes now what will we know in 100yrs? I totally believe there are probably hundreds of species in our galaxy alone. Some less, equal, and more advanced than us. Life is probably the norm when the conditions are right. We are probably on the cusp of immorality right now. There are already advances being made in anti ageing every year...gene mapping, stem cell, hormone replacement, super supplements like resveratrol, ta 65, cyclo astragenol etc... So there are probably some immortal aliens out there. Probably by the time you could even consider traveling to even the closest star system you would have the tech to be immortal.

Though I doubt any living thing can become immortal, you make very good points. I'm enjoying this discussion a lot.

What about "soul transference" ala the movie Freejack, or the infinitely better book Immortality, Inc.? Sorry, all this theoretical talk got the mind wandering.

Yeah I cant wait to get that show.....it had some awesome stuff on there.I find it funny how people simply disregard things like this as crazy or absurd yet they believe in talking snakes and oceans splitting apart.....
