Default B&W 683 with M1 Rears in 7.1 setup?

Hey All,

I currently have a B&W MT30 Kit with the PV1 sub andOnkyo 608 and I must admit I am very happy with the set up. I only had this setup for a month.. However I keep thinking that I am missing something by not having the 683's as front L and R and the C speaker as HTM61..

My idea is to keep the PV1 sub and upgrade the fronts with the 683's and a centre speaker as HTM61 and use the 2 x M1's I will remove from the front to the back to have a 7.1 surrond setup.

So in theory it will be as:

Front Left and Right: B&W 683's
Centre: B&W HTM1
Rear surround: 4 x M1 Sats in a 7.1 setup

Please can someone tell me this:

1 - Will I really notice much diference or will it just be splashing money for no reason?

2 - Will this be a good match with the PV1 sub and the M1 sats as rears

3 - Or Shall I just shut up and stick with the set up I already have and maybe in future buy another 2 x M1 and add to the rears for a 7.1 setup?

PS: My Lounge is fairly big. Its 7 metres by 4 metres.. Please see pics

I have a set of five M-1's (no sub) for a bedroom setup, and think they're great...... with that said, the 600's would be an improvement, and I certainly wouldn't consider it "splashing money for no reason" Plus, you move from a 5.1 to 7.1 which has it's benefits (although I'm not a "HUGE" proponent of 7.1, but think it's nice to have)

Adding 2 additional M-1's isn't a terrible idea either however....... How much music do you listen to? The 600's will certainly out-shine the Minis in that aspect....... Do you watch movies at "reference" level????

I have the 685's for surrounds, and the range they have in comparison to my M-1's for the bedroom setup is quite impressive......

Another suggestion, would be to pair your speakers with a warmer sounding amp..... or at least plan on it in the future!

Hey, Thanks for the response.. Indeed I listen to music but this is 90% for Blu Ray Movies .. So it will be a setup prioratised in movies.. Do you suggest I stick to what I have then?

Also I thought the sound was a little bright too with the Onkyo but to be honest with you I put the little foams in the rear of the M1's and that has definitely made a warmer "more meaty" sound if you know what I mean

The 683 along with the HTM1 should be a great upgrade for your fronts. Your room is big and I think those front speakers will do well. For surrounds the M1s will be fine. Maybe you can upgrade to the 685/686 later if you get bitten by the upgrade bug again. I'm not familiar with your sub but my experience with older B&W subs are not that great. If you think the sub is okay then that's all that matters.
