Firstly, I don't think the mpeg4 video is mashing down to a high definition format. 2 hours of hi def is not going to fit on a standard DVD. If I am wrong, I want to know.

I think the writer of the article is ill informed, to say the least. Then again, consider the journalist qualities of a site called, "idiot toys".

There are a couple of them in Japan, but they have almost no market share. Blu-ray, on the other hand, has reached nearly 20% market share in the Japanese recorder market.

I wonder what the quality of the re-encode is like for this HD on DVD recorder.
