Default Massive Blu-ray Campaign in Japan

One of my friends in Japan recently spoke to me about the latest advertisement campaign in Japan. He says that Advertising on both TV and visual ads around the country are 5:1 of HD-DVD. He also notes that HD-DVDs are almost nowhere to be found in Japan. Even in Akihabara, Japan's electric town. He says Blu-ray is being advertised "too" often by both Sharp and Sony. He says Japan's decision is made, and there is no fight left here (in Japan) for HD-DVD.

Sounds like Europe is next.

The reason I think America is so bad is because we have "proud" activists on both formats. When you combine the sheer politics Americans on the internet love so much, with a format war. What you end up with is a populous of confused consumers, who are just as confused about a digital disc as they are about the war in the middle east. Honestly I think this format war's greatest enemy are the news websites lol.

However unlike politics which will continue till the end of time. Something has to give in the format war, because many companies are not making big money until a final format is decided. This so called stand-off won't last much longer.

Don't forget there's still the war with SD DVD to be fought. How are the Blu-ray ads compared with the SD DVD ads in Japan I wonder?

I'm not surprised at all to hear that our attitude here in America is holding us back from declaring a winner in this format war. It's what I hate and love most about our country.

I have said this once and I'll say it again. Who cares about HD DVD.! Our fight is with sd dvd. From what I have read the latest figures say 76% of American households still don't have high def in they're homes.

We need to after that market, screw HD DVD.

The US moves half of all home video product sold, and is home turf for the movie studios.

That's why this is where Toshiba blew their wad. There are no subsidized players in the rest of the world for the most part

I'll worry about DVD when HD-DVD is dead and the HD-DVD fanboys are crying because they had to admit defeat and buy a BD player, and until we can say "you got pwned" I'm going to focus on HD-DVD once that's gone there will be a transition to BD like from VHS to DVD the consumer wants a better product, the 1 thing slowing us down is the purchase of a HDTV to get the effect of BD.

we know that hd-dvd has almost lost every where except in North America, so why don't they campaign alot more in North America to get more sales. because I blu-ray won un North America hd dvd would be done.

Like in WWII, if the U.S. had fallen, the whole world would have been plunged into darkness. So Toshiba's focus on the U.S. is because if the U.S. plunges into darkness, then the rest of the world will follow. That's what they think anyway. Blu is the last best hope for mankind.

There is still getting people to actually adopt HDM over DVD.

In Japan the BD recorders are starting to catch on, but I don't know if there is any indication of a massive adoption of Blu-ray movie discs at this point. Utter dominance over HD DVD, of course, but how is BD doing relative to DVD right now?

At some stage, regardles of what happens in the states, Universal et al are going to have to make a decision whether they wish to sell hi-def movies in Europe, Japan/Asia and Australasia.

The markets in an early state for sure, but with the PS3 hitting stores before HD-DVD could get a foothold, there's pretty much zero chance of that format catching on, beyond a tiny niche, anywhere but the US.
