Default RPTV vertical viewing angles?

So over the past few months I have been contemplating getting a RPTV. I am about ready to pull the trigger on the Sony SXRD 60A3000. My only concern is the vertical viewing angle. I have heard that projection TVs have a poor vertical viewing angle compared to Plasmas and LCDs. My living room situation is such that my TV can only be placed in a nook (plenty deep and wide for a 60 inch projection TV) about 4 feet off the ground. I am sitting about 10 feet away from where the TV would go. I currently have my 40 inch Samsung in this spot. I am looking at projection TVs to get more bang for my buck.

Any thoughts or experiences with SXRDs or other projection TVs, at this height? I might go with a smaller Plasma or LCD if people think that a projection TV isn’t a good idea at this height.

Thanks in advance

They do indeed have this issue. Your best bet is to see if you can find a store with one on display higher than floor level and check it out yourself. My wild guess is that you would see a pretty noticeable dropoff with it that high. I do on my JVC.

I,ve got the 60A3000 and it's pretty sweet. I sit about 11 feet away and it sits about 2 1/2 feet off the floor. I tried standing on my couch to see if a 4 foot angle looking down made any difference and didn't notice any.

LOL, thanks for the help.

I went to BestBuy the other day and they had the new Sony 60A3000 on a shelf pretty high, 5 or 6 feet, which I thought was kind of an odd display for a RPTV. I was very impressed with the viewing angles of it though. I stepped back 8-10 feet and squatted down and the picture still looked good. The display at BestBuy was much higher than what I will have at home so I figure if that looks good, then I shouldn't have any problem with it at home.
