I hate to say it but this could be unwatchable on a tv of your size Markbr.

Commando is a good Blu i thought. I was impressed with the upgrade over the various DVD editions. I have four different versions of Commando on DVD, and the Blu is FAR better, especially the sound. Shame its not the directors cut...

As for Predator, i could live with the visuals on the first edition as, already mentioned on here, its a rough and ready film. My major gripe about that early edition was the hollow and tinny audio. Virtually no LFE and very harsh and bright.
I'll be reluctantly getting the new one (double dips ), as its one of my favourite movies, and regarding the films 23 years of age, i'll approach it with an open mind.

By the way. Raw Deal is out tomorrow!

I never bought the stripped blu ray's of Predator and Commando as I thought and still think in the case of Commando that Fox will try and shaft me by releasing a double dip of it. No, I'm happy with the upcoming blu ray (wonky PQ and all) of Predator and will be when a DC of Commando comes out.

Also I got my notice that Raw Deal and Red Sonja shipped from Amazon today! Happy days!

Never seen these films but I'd really like to. What was wrong with the discs in the 2-pack? I've heard bad things.

I was ignoring this thread because my present Blu-ray looks great and I have the old 2-disc DVD (inside the Blu-ray box) -my own ultimate edition I was thinking

Anyway, having read the review of the 'new' edition I can see virtually no reason to spend money. I say spend money because that's what it is. There is no upgrade here to see.

No sale.

Looking forward to Predators which might bring something new to the party. Only seen 5mins of the crap Predator 2 and wouldn't dream of watching all those rip-off and brain-numbing AVP films but Predators may be fresh. Maybe.

IMHO, Predator 2 was good fun. It just would have been better if Danny Glover didn't constantly sound like he was whispering .

AVP 1 was at least watchable but the violence needed to be ramped up a hell of a lot more. AVP 2 was utter trash and you did yourself a favor by not seeing it.

Predator suffers from compression artifacts and some noise which the MPEG-2 encode most likely would not have helped with. Having said that, I own the release and despite the negative aspects of it the majority of the film still looks quite good and based on the screenshots for the new release I'd take some compression artifacts over a loss of natural grain and detail any day. Quite a few of the jungle scenes look particularly good.

Predator 2 has some DNR and EE. It's not hugely intrusive though, but all the same it's there. It does result in a slightly processed look, but judging it by this new Predator release it's a work of art.

I picked up the double pack from CDWow! last year and I managed to get it for $19.95AU (about Ł12). The double pack comes in a slipcover (well it did when I bought it) and Amazon has it going for Ł12.99 at the moment. I'd highly recommend it as the price is good and clearly you won't get a better Predator release for some time based on this recent one. The database entry here is fully spec'd. I updated the entry some time ago with high quality scans of the art and all the specs are confirmed directly from the disc. I would definitely suggest picking this up now as Fox may begin releasing the double pack with the new Predator disc in it in the future.

Looks good. Been meaning to treat myself to a nice looking BD as I am bored with the ones I have now.

Also, I need you to tell me where you got that nice looking T2 skull.

And you have FS Iron Man?!? :jealous:

Is the Predator 2 disc here:

http://www.play.com/DVD/Blu-ray/4-/6...2/Product.html

the same transfer as the double pack here:

http://www.play.com/DVD/Blu-ray/4-/6...2/Product.html

If it is I may consider ordering it after the review I read of the new Predator disc on http://www.thedigitalbits.com

I'll just keep the original copy. Grain wins in my opinion.

Sorry this is a bit off-topic but, am I right in thinking that the new film, Predators, takes place between Preadtor and Predator 2? Sorry if I'm wrong its just I read somewhere that it is, but it was a little vague.

And also, do we think that there will be a re-release of Predator 2 at some point?
