The opening scene on the beach in the theater literally rocked my brains. I could hear the shrapnel and hot lead flying past my head. Almost ducked! It was presented in DTS and the theater was cranking the volume. These are the kind of sound reproductions I look forward to on BD.

well im hoping that Steven knows himself that close encounters wouldnt sell great, classic movie but i dont think it compares to jurassic park, saving private ryan, or even minority report. i just hope hes testing the water and still knows that his other movies will sell really good. give us jurassic park exclusive to blu and itll sell 200,000. but i could be wrong lol

CE3K will probably sell well, but it's not going to be huge numbers since the format is still somewhat in it's infancy. But surely he is aware of this.

And dont' forget A.I. though some may not have enjoyed this one, but I certainly did the video transfer would look great on BD and oh yes Schindlers List not a lot of action, but still a classic

I have CE3K on pre-order (UK gets it in a couple of weeks). If he was to release more of his titles on BD, then I'd certainly be in the market for them. Hopefully Mr S will see that his BD title sells well and prompts him to release the other movies which he is able to release in due course.

Speaking of Mr S, does anyone know if the same applies to the other Mr S (Ridley to his fans)... I'd just love Gladiator on BD.

PS. I think CE3K will sell very well indeed... it needs to be advertised though just like the POTC movie which is being advertised over here on BD PS3 compatible.

I am a bit greedier, all I can think about is "What better way to push the new Indiana Jones movie in the theater than release a boxed set on blu"

They will so, that is probably a given. Amazon is already announcing the future release of "Saving Private Ryan" for HD DVD and from what I've read it will be offered on Blu-Ray. The announcement does not give a release date but you sign up for notification by email when it is available for pre-order.

I'm fairly certain the release dates will be the same for both format versions especially since Spielberg made the statement he wanted his movies to be not exclusive to either format.

The only rule is that if they want to release them on high-def, they must ALSO release a Blu version

Though it appears he may have forbidden any HD DVD releases, we do not know that for certain
It is curious that the Blu-ray clause applies to all the Universal and Dreamworks films, but he had absolutely no issue with releasing a big title like Close Encounters on Blu-ray only. That speaks volumes.

I don't know if he has forbidden HD DVD releases. But, he has slapped HD DVD on the wrist and sent them to their room without supper.

Gary

P.S. I wonder how Universal and Dreamworks would handle a Blu-ray release logistically. Would they put out a disc under their own label, or offer a co-production with a BD producing studio?

SS can put out any movie he wants and it will sell. He just needs to put them out. I wonder if he is busy tinkering with any of them for future release. As long as he doesn't "Lucas"-up any of his films and ruin them. At least with Blu, they could put both (or more) versions on one disc and not worry about it!

Exactly.
Like the quote I posted says, he can release them on either or both but they can't be hd exclusive.
That means he can put anything he feels like on blu with no second though to HD if he so chose.
That being said , it is very very important not to get too ga ga over that because he is a business man and it would not be unheard of for him to put a movie out on blu first then a few months later or so on hd.
Of course hd idiots will immediately say "ZOMG Spielberg switching sides and going HD!!" even though it is released on BD first.
He is not a blu saint or martyr.

How about Band of Brothers? That series is awesome and it would be even better on blu-ray. But why is it that there are no english subtitles???
