Default Blu-ray and Black Friday

There are a lot of titles I want to get (like the Ocean's Trilogy and the HP movies), but does anyone think we will see any good blu-ray titles at steep discounts on black Friday or will retailers stick to marketing DVD? I waited at CC all night last year to get a 37" 1080i LCD tv for under $500 and a laptop for $299.

Nothing big in the way of title discounts. Sales on players and PS3's but the only titles that are in any ads are in the FYE ad. Best Buy and Circuit City don't have any.

Here's the ads I've gone through so far.

Yeah movie titles are not going on sale at the typical B&M stores (at least none that I have seen the ads for). Movie studios may not want to hit someone all at one time for the player and then the movies. May very well be saving up for the week after or so to hit all of those new Blu-ray buyers with the deals on movie titles...at least I hope...a-hem Fox...

Plus studios are probably going to hold off until they get sales data from those buying the players to see if it is even worthwhile discounting the titles...or even have to...

Yeah, those aren't much of a deal at all. Least they could do is give us a 1080p LCD tv 1/2 off.

With the BOGO sales currently going on we're essentially seeing BF-like prices right now.

Not really. BOGO sales are on movies that mostly 1) been around a long time and most people have or 2) unpopular movies most people would only buy if on sale.

Black Friday is all about putting items on sale people WANT and are hot items. I would love to see some real sale on real blu-rays for once. Black Friday would be the perfect day.

HOT items is the key word there. Sadly, Blu-ray is still a ways off from being a mass-adopted "doorbuster" for any store. Loss leaders are supposed to get A LOT of people into the stores, where they will hopefully buy other things as well. No sense in advertising something with such a limited market as a loss leader. Hopefully, by this time next year we'll be there.

"2000:1 contrast ratio (10,000:1 dynamic)"

I have one to and love it but the 10k:1 is dynamic which wont ever be better than base contrast

What would be awesome is if Sony pulled a suprise announcment and sold the PS3 for $299 just for that day.

Wonder how that would turn the tide of the format war?

I listened to the head of the BDA on a podcast the other day and he was asked about the Black Friday deals. The interviewer asked if we could see the $99 Blu-ray player and he basically said no.

He did however state that he expected the makers of the different players (sharp, samsung, etc) to do specials like LCD 1080p TV with a Blu-ray player for $1,000 (didn't say size) but using a lower priced TV packaged with the player to encourage people into the Hi-Def market with Blu!

Imagine ALL LCDs/ Plasma HDTVs on sale for BF (the Sharp, Panasonic, Pioneer, Sony, Philips, JVC ones that is- which is a lot) with a free Blu Ray player (profile 1.0)

Just imagining the realm of possibility.

Now, if indeed the BDA is preparing something big, it seems they will wait the last possible moment to anounce it to avoid a counter by Toshiba...
