Seven Swords
Red Cliff PTs. I & II

These are all favs, however, I'm in need of an American (Fox/Joy Sales maybe) release of the Bruce Lee films... As well as an HK release of Hero! WTF?!

Yeah. Friggin' WB. At this time, the U.S. release is the one to own, given the other is the Chinese language version, with no Eng. track: ("Bull$*** Mr. Han Man!" doesn't come off quite as well in Chinese!) They have all this never before released out-takes and deleted footage and didn't give the damned film proper HD audio (this film begs DTS-HD MA!)
The video is ok, however, I feel they could have done even better, given what Dirty Harry looks like, made the same year.

@ The Dragon

Don't even get me started on all the below average transfers Kam and Ronson has been giving all these great martial arts movies. Classic to modern day they have FUBARd them all. I am so glad I read the reviews before purchasing the Fist of Fury + other Bruce Lee HK eleases. Not to mention how absolutely atrocious the reviews are for the Once Upon A Time In China series (another Kam and Ronson). I friggin love those movies! If I would have spent the money on all those and then viewed those bad transfers I would have went batsh*% crazy on those companies.

So many of the titles you mention have been reviewed by person after person as being subpar transfers. It is such a shame these films haven't gotten the treatment they deserve!!! too bad Deltamac or a better quality studio didn't have the rights to some of these great films. Kam and Ronson are utter garbage

P.S. No Tai Chi Master???

I agree with the bulk of what you said, dfms23. However, the thread is called Your Favorite Blu Ray Martial Arts. I simply listed them. I'm not about to get into how poor this one is over that one;I am so accustomed to MA films having $h***y transfers I live with them. I prefer them in the manner of how Flashpoint, Red Cliff I&II,and Seven Swords' transfers look: pretty damned good-to me.

As for the Bruce Lee films-I own so many versions, I'm still awaiting the definitive releases of his classics.

Oh, and... I never really liked Tai Chi Master. I own the VHS, and remastered DVD. I got them for Jet Li, however, I don't really care for the movie. I believe too much Wire-Fu.
I fell the same about The Legend of Fong Sai Yuk Pt.s I&II.

Iron Monkey looked good.

The Dragon Dynasty series has released some classics, but I have yet to view them as they have mostly had atrocious reviews in terms of PQ.

I'd recommend Ip Man, Fearless, and Fists of Legend as good starters.

If you're looking for some older titles then you may want to look into 36th Chamber of Shaolin, Delightful Forest, and Enter the Dragon. They tend to have their issues however, Shoalin and Forest are both 1080i transfers and Forest in fact has a replacement program because of a faulty first pressing, and Enter the Dragon didn't include HD audio.

If you like Martial Arts comedies, I'd recommend Kung Fu Hustle.

Hardly a dealbreaker, though. The DTS HD track didn't sound very different from the DD 640kbps Cantonese track. DD 640 on Blu is superior to DD on dvd.

You can check out Amazon UK, a lot of the Showbox titles are on sale and they are all-region.

But it all depends what you are into. "Ip Man" was awesome. Look forward to the second! "Chocolate" if you want to see a young woman put her heart and soul into the film and be surprised how much risk she put herself into and how often she got hurt doing her own stunts.

There are other titles but depends on your preference (original language or English dub).

Only the blu-rays of 36th Chamber of Shaolin and The Killer were disasterous (PAL to NTSC interlaced transfers), however the bulk of them since have been great (The Jet Li titles aren't the best in PQ, but far better than 36th Chamber or Killer).

Kung Fu Hustle would be at the top of my list as far as titles on BD are concerned. If Bruce Lee's films ever see a US BD release then I'll definitely change my ranking.

Fist of Legend, not the most eyepopping bluray or anything but one of the most impressive martial arts movies ever made imo.

In the same vein, I wouldn't really consider them traditional Kung Fu movies, but all of Tony Jaa's films are pretty awesome.

Ong Bak
Ong Bak 2
The Protector

Out of all 3, personally, The Protector is my favorite, and I highly recommend giving it a watch sometime. These were all released on BD this year.

+1 for Kung Fu Panda. Great movie, cool fights.

As far as the real fighting side goes, Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon comes out soon I think.

In addition, the US release of 'IP Man' is being released July 27, 2010, just a few more weeks! Definitely check that out as already recommended.
