Ok, so I'm done w/ PCs for my personal use. I'll use them at work, but they do truly suck. I'm definitely buying an Apple next but if I'm already spending the cash then I want a blu-ray drive built-in.
What's up, Apple? Where's my BD drive? |

Love my macs (4 total), particularly now that you can run Winblows natively (Boot Camp or VMware Fusion) for those times that I have to use it for work.
But, yeah, it would be nice for them to come up with some Blu-ray support beyond what is available via Toast (burning only). |

I too sympathize with your request of Apple. I just keep telling myself....Macworld 2008. That is where they announced the iPhone. And is USUALLY where they announce most of their "big" products. I don't think they will have the computers actually come with the drives built in, I think that Apple with give the option to buy a mac with a Blu drive from their online store. There really is no reason why they wouldn't support Blu-Ray other than keeping the studio support from Universal and Paramount to keep using their products for film production. But even with the Bourne news that got scrapped, hope looms upon the horizon for the Blu format getting Universal at least Neutral in the coming months. Apple has been VERY busy with their other products and they try their hardest to not half-ass anything. Yes things go wrong but their products are VERY well designed for the most part. Just wait and we will receive something very awesome from Apple.

As much is it would be amazing to have a BD drive in our Macs, you can't get all snappy with Apple. Yes, Apple does usually lead the way with innovation, but please, just wait a bit more. As the Blu Phenomenon catchs on, we will see BD drives... hopefully soon to.
Sorry guys, I can't let ya slag on Apple, they have been very good to me. Better then Microsoft, that's fo' damn sure. |

I'm in desperaet need for a new Mac and am holding out hope that there will be an announcement at Macword 2008. If we're really lucky the new computers will be available within a day of the conference. I just hate waiting months and months for some cool new feature that's being dangled in front of you.

![]() I worked in computer graphics long enough to know how many of "you people" like your Macs, and that's fine, they're all just tools (like arguing over your favorite brand of pencil) but there is nothing in the Mac software or hardware that makes it more useful for art, it's just tradition (mostly) and a little extra idiot-proofing in the OS (for techno-phobic artists). Edit: I still would like to see Apple support Blu-ray more. There are a lot of Mac buyers who should have the option, and every bit of suppot counts! An iTV with a BD drive would be pretty sweet me things... |

The MAC mouse has the same number of buttons, you just don't see them. In fact, they are in the exact same place as any PC mouse's buttons - left click, right click, scroll. It isn't just techno-phobic artists who dislike PC. I work long hours, have a family and lots of hobbies... so I have far better things to do than fuss with my PC all the time. Like most people, I'd far rather just have the thing work when I need it. PC needs way too much handholding. And yes, over time, regardless of virus protection, they do just start running slow. You really have to rebuild your PC every 2 years or so or else it just bogs down and sucks. I haven't seen that phenomenon w/ MACs. |

As you say, arguing what OS/PC is better is not worthwhile-- it's what works in your hands. But phrases you use like "idiot-proofing in the OS" and "spending more for a less powerful machine" seem like you're arguing that the Mac is clearly inferior, and I would certainly have a bone to pick about that. Hope you enjoy your PC, as I do my Macs. Last edited by Brain Sturgeon; 11-15-2007 at 09:57 PM. |
