Please stop doing this hollywood. Why do you have to keep running all time classics into the ground with haphazzard remakes. Really lame, why don't you guys come up with your own original crap for once. I can imagine Robby will be CGI and look as lame as Gort. |

Face it. Remakes do draw increased attention to the original films. And often remakes can be better than the original film. The Thing anyone? |

Hollywood is all about the big explosions, cars speeding down alleys crashing into garbage cans... CG effects... what they should be doing is relying more on story but it seems like it's the big explosions that get people into the theaters. It's all about the ROI, not the art anymore. As for Forbidden Planet, I was just never a fan - never really got why everyone loved it so much but everyone loves different things. Without those differences, it'd be a pretty boring world.

Besides, it ensures the originals get a Blu-Ray release. Just look at The Day The Earth Stood Still. Blu-Ray in December. |

Living with the times, things chnage or get improved. Unfortunatly a lot of time the remake just palin sucks!!!!!!
![]() Now I wait to see them on TMNHD on cable instead of using my cash at the theater. With HD at home and TV getting larger and with sound system, a lot of time the experiences is a lot more fun at home anyway. |

Remakes should be call re-dos as they can never remake the classic and capture the culture of the time/era it. Being only eight years old when this came out it was one of if not my favorite movie's of my childhood and to this day it still would be on my all-time favorite list of movies.
In the 50's we still had not had space travel and no blaster weapons, but we sure did have "Monsters of the ID" so go ahead and let them remake Forbidden Planet and who knows they just might be smart enough to use the original Robby. The recent re-do of War Of The Worlds is another one that could also never replace the original movie, but it was a great re-do and the Martians coming up out other streets at the beginning was in a different league compared to original but again for it's time the original was just great. Just think maybe about 25 to 30 years down the road a new generation will be saying why re-do the Matrix. |

The remake/trilogy may be dead. M-G-M is in extremely serious financial trouble. (Google MGM news)
What with merchandising, distribution, ownership, etc. it may be as dead as the James Bond franchise and the Hobbit movies are now. Besides I have an early draft of the Straczynski script, and the earlier scripts (by Nelson Gidding and Sterling Silliphant) and NONE of them does justice to the original — although JMS does come close (he makes fundamental mistakes, as if he hasn't seen it in years). |

![]() (But like the earlier poster said, at least we got the original on hi-def, so any remakes, dead or alive, can kiss our big Blu hinders.) ![]() |
