Warner Bros Forbidden Planet (1956)

There has been a bit of talk about classics / back catalogue items not selling. Specifically CE3K is supposed to have disappointed Sony Pictures... So I thought a poll on this classic Sci-Fi film of the 1950s would be useful to gauge it's BD release.

Can't wait!

Ice Pirates...loved it as a kid! I must admit it didn't do much for me as an adult though when I bought the DVD a while back.

I love Sci Fi, and this one is a must! The story and effects are still so much fun to watch.

I'll get this one and I'd also like for classic 50's-60's SiFi:

Attack of the 50' Woman
Last Woman on Earth
One Million Years BC

(like I say, "sometimes cheese is good")

Oh No... apparently that even annoyed the HD-DVD fanboys. Apparently the Robbie the Robot model was tacky... even for somebody with an HD-DVD player.

It's already on my pre-order list. As soon as I can, I'm placing my order.

Same here, but I can imagine the rants on that ("Why the heck is it fullscreen?!") when people see the OAR

I was one of the few who bought CEOTK on Blu so i'm not to blame for Sony's disappointment. I love sci-fi movies, Forbidden Planet is a must buy for me even if it comes with the tacky robot, I love that kind of junk. The day the Earth Stood still is cool. I gotta pick up the 20million miles to earth. Too many movies to buy and too little money.

I'll be standing in line the night before at BB for Forbidden Planet.

It will be interesting to see if they stay with the original theatrical aspect ratio on this title. I beleive Forbidden Planet was one of the few movies of the 1950s where they used the three cameras projecting on three screens. (Long and very narrow profile when viewed on a TV.)

This title will be in my top 10 most anticipated release of 2008.

IF soNY is so dissapointed in "classics" like Close Encounters not selling so well , its just desserts for not releasing a classic that would sell in the tens of thousands world wide- namely lawrence Of Arabia

To me, it was the 50's equivalent of Star Wars. I've had it in LaserDisc and DVD. Certainly, I will buy it in Blu.

Classic movies that can be watched in home theaters with nearly as good to better quality than the day they were released to commercial theaters? Gee, who'd be interested in that?
