Default Another miss by HD-DVD

The fools that run that ship just got sign-off on the new 51gb (three-layer) disc to match the size of the current Blu-ray.

To bad ALL thier players will only read TWO layers... LOL

Who knows if and when this thing will ever be released, but at least the pubic dosn't have to wait to get the best there is right now! Go figure, This is on the drawing board for a few years and BD has this available now. No waiting. By the time this is released, HD DVD will be gone and the market will be a happy blu color everywhere.

Does this not debunk two of the HD DVD groups claims: 1) 30GB is enough and 2) The HD DVD spec is finalized. Guess this is what happens when you rush a second rate product to market.

On a different note, I like how the article ended with something about a stalemate, maybe they should read up on the 100GB blu-ray that is designed to work in all current players. Granted it is still a little bit away, but it has a better chance of coming to market than the triple layer HD DVD.

This article is stupid, this is really old news, it was approve the the HDDVD forum a while again, and it is still not in production, the guy just probably just now heard of it. So once more.

Id be surprised if this becomes mainstream. I can only imagine if BD would outdo them and release a - dare I say it - 75 GB disc? What do you even need that much space for?

I'm not one to hate on HD DVD as much as others, but - I mean, really? Tsk Tsk.

absolutely, it also shows you the massive difference between Blu-ray and HD-DVD, BD built the foundation first, space and bandwidth, the core basics you need to enjoy the movie, then added the extra features AFTER this, meaning that a 2.0 disc can work in a 1.0 BD player just not make use of the extra features, HD-DVD on the other hand improved DVD technology, and added features that were barely going to be used (PiP) or to compensate for lack of space (Internet connectivity) BD added these features to checkmate HD-DVD :P

HD-DVD saw this and tried to improve the foundation of the house they built, the question everyone is wondering now can they do it without collapsing the house... would you guys say I have it right?

this is so far unconfirmed, with toshiba guarantees it would work, but DVD forum said it's still in test, and compatibility investigated

Default No burners

It pointless for HD-DVD to have 51GB movie, or at least does not make sense selling the disk. Consumers can't even find HD-DVD drives that burn stuff, all they do is read. I'll stick to my BD drive, which reads and writes.

it comes down to what would you rather cheap player expensive discs or moderately expensive player and inexpensive discs if the triple layer discs have low failure rates do you think BD might try triple layer discs? I just want to make sure we beat them on all front that 1 GB though meaningless I want no doubt, that BD out does HD-DVD in every way...

You are so right. This will be nothing more than a talking point for HD DVD fanboys. I can hear them now..."We have 51 gigs of memory!!!!! It's a whole gig more than Blu-ray!!!" Now what they fail to realize that just because the DVD forum signed off on TL51 we won't see practical use for it for about another year or so (hopefully all this "format war" crap will be over long before then), and it's still yet to be officially determined if they will play in existing players or not. If they don't that's a lot of pissed off customers that have to buy new players just to get a movie to play.
