I just bought a Blu Ray player in Mexico.
LG Mexico people told me that if I buy a Blu Ray movie in USA it won't play. As far as I know, Blu Ray Region A (1) includes both, USA and Mexico. Not like DVD's that USA was region 1 and LA was region 4. However, would like to hear experiences, comments. TJ |

No practical experience here, but Region A includes North, Central and South America as far as I know.
Much discussion of BD region coding can be found on this thread. |

As of Mexico, I understand that mexico uses PAL, and PAL is in region B mostly. Maybe, in general it's region A, but the PS3 distributed there is region B. Indonesia is PAL. but the PS3 distributed there is NTSC-J. And so does Singapore and Hong Kong. They have common region, though: Region 3 DVD, and Region A BD. |

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hdtv#Standard_resolutions
PAL and NTSC are standard resolutions, and do not involve HDTV. PAL is 768x576 and NTSc is 720x480. HDTVs run at 720 and 1080. EDTV (enhanced defintion) (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Enhanced_definition) runs SD signals at a higher refresh rate. |

I know PAL and NTSC are SD, not HD. but thanks for further info. "PAL is 768x576 and NTSc is 720x480". Never knew. I thought both of them are 720x576 and 720x480. So, it's 768 for PAL.
What I mean above is that they group BD regions mostly by looking the analog signal of that country. If it's PAL, then it's region B, if it's NTSC, then it's region A. Although obviously does not apply to Indonesia (PAL, but small number of TV stations use NTSC), the PS3/XBOX/Wii that is distributed in Indonesia are NTSC-J |

that is one huge resolution..... ![]() guess us, home user, won't get that resolution. I've heard a company (either korean/japanese) - samsung? panasonic? they developed beyond true HD (2000+ resolution) |

IMAX are those huge screens that are usually only in museums. They have more and more stand alone theaters now that show real movies, and you can watch things like Beowulf, and Harry Potter in IMAX or IMAX 3D.
The screens are huge (several stories tall) and it feels like you are right in the middle of the scene. If you can find one in your area, check it out. You can get a list of theaters at wikipedia. There are a number of BD titles that were originally IMAX releases, such as Chronos and Mars Rover. I did hear that there is an ultra HD set up somewhere.. crazy. I also hear there are screens that support 4k resolutions, wish I had one of those ![]() |

He used LA as Latinamerica. Mexico is in region A; and its Standard Definition is NTSC, as most of America is (I think Brasil and Argentina have or had PAL/PAL related broadcast, but DVDs in those 2 countries are NTSC too). Don't think any PS3s sold in America would be region B as people then would have to imports Blu-rays from Europe and Oceania. |
