Default Lossless audio frickin' rocks and most BD movies has it!!

I just picked up myself a new reciever and it supports all the latest audio codec including DTS Master, Dolby TrueHD and PCM... all I can say is it's awesome and I love it!! Audio sounds louder, clearer and can hear every little detail. Almost all exclusive Blu-ray movies has lossless audio while only a few has it on HD-DVD. Even Transformers and Shrek 2 doesn't have lossless audio and those are two blockbuster movies. I hate the fact that most Warner movies doesn't have lossless because of HD-DVD's limitation. I hope Warner goes exclusive soon because I want all my BD movies to be in the highest quality possible!!

Most new Warner releases will have lossless audio - I don't know what happened with Oceans 13.
Warner's policy is to use lossless wherever possible and the only titles coming out now without it will be either catch-up titles where the HD DVD did NOT have lossless audio (like T3 - DD+ @ 640 Kbps) or titles that were encoded within the last 18 months and haven't found a release window yet.

You're right though - there's no comparison. There's a very recognizable sound to these lossless high bitrate encodes and it's the reason why I originally chose Blu-ray. When I first saw the specs for The Fifth Element and saw PCM 5.1 for the audio, I just about shit my pants.

I have yet to regret my decision. HD DVD is a sub-par format delivering sub-par quality. The fact that they call themselves the sound of perfect is pathetic and insulting to people that have experienced Blu.

Ah... but don't forget the mantra: HD DVD is "good enough". Some of the HD DVD advocates will scream up and down DDplus @ 1.5mbs is indistinguisable from the master audio tape, even though I suspect most of them haven't heard a lossless/uncompressed audio track. Arguments are bolstered by would be professional audio mixers who claim the average consumers, including wouldbe audiophiles, cannot hear the difference with "well-mastered" DDplus encodes.

I haven't heard 1.5M lossy vs lossless on the same audio tracks but everything else I've heard suggests lossless/uncompressed audio RULES !!!

If DDplus @ 1.5mbs is indistinguisable from the master audio tape, why not use the uncompressed PCM? Can you say Disk Space? 2008 is going to be a very interesting year for both HD DVD and Blu-ray. The time is approaching now for a solid direction in HD Format preference. Warner is going to drop HD DVD in 2008. Universal will follow suit with the minimial support for HD DVD and the Spielberg issues on format preference. Paramount will have changes in top CEO positions by the board as scape goats and to save face.

I have seen the reports of some of the insiders saying that the DD+ is equal to the masters as well. So say on the professional equiptment it does. How many of us have professional equiptment? So who is to say in this instance maybe having lower end equiptment might not make the problem more noticealbe not less?

Not only that we are to take their word over what our ears hear. Same way we donot have the masters to know what sounds more like it PCM or a lossless TrueHD or DTS HD MA track. We have to go with what sounds better. Even if it is a placebo affect most that have the ability to listen to bitstreamed audio think it is better than PCM. Where those that decode in the player and it is sent PCM think the orignal PCM track is better. But I thought these were the same. Well in theory they are but in the real world there is a difference.

So there is the delima listen to the expert or what you hear. Beleive theory or what you have heard. Not sure about you but I will go with what I think sounds better. And if I can get the real masters someday then I will compare and see which one is closer. But since that will never happen I am left back at the begining. One sounds better than the other.

Your right. Look at all the hundreds of millions mp3 players out there. Even though the mp3 format is inferior to CD quality but thats good enough for people. I don't even see people playing CDs anymore. Look how small the SACD section is at the music stores.
