Default Question about playing PS2 games on the PS3

I picked up a PS2 game the other day and when I play it on my wide screen it plays in the standard square like an old TV. Is there any way I can make it fit the whole screen? It is not in the options of the game. Thanks!

Check you tvs options normally there is a fill or strech option to make the picture fill the whole screen.

Go to the "gameplay settings" of your PS3 and then look for upscaling PS2/PS1 games and put it on fullscreen, I think, just play around with that option. I had that problem too.

just wondering, what PS3 version you got and type of connection.... seems I got a problem with my EU PS3. My Japanese PS3 can be set to display full screen for PS2 games with no probs, but my EU PS3 tells me that I need HDMI connection in order for upscaling to work

On the XMB:

Settings > Game Settings > PS/PS2 Upscaler >

Normal = 4:3
Full Screen = 16:9

You can also set this by pressing the PS button when a PS/PS2 game is already playing.

HAHAHA... is this Sony's attempt at redefining the term "fullscreen" now that widescreen TVs are flooding the market? After all, last time I checked, "FULLSCREEN" was defined as a 4:3 aspect ratio.

Even though you probably don't want my opinion, it's better to leave the game on 4:3 (unless it does have widescreen capabilities). Always go with the original aspect ratio, because that's what it was made for.

I see people always saying to change the setting to fullscreen on the upscaling to fill the screen, but even then it still doesn't fill my widescreen tv, actually after the update it ended up being smaller boxed then I changed the settings to full and it went back to the way it was before having pretty thin black bars at the end. Am I missing something?
