8% of US console owners said they were likely to buy one in the coming year, compared with 28% of active gamers. Interest rose even more dramatically when asking those who currently play on a console, with 42% of PlayStation 2 owners, 55% of Xbox owners and 54% of GameCube owners indicating they were likely to buy a new console. 60% of those who own a PS2 and are considering a new console likely to buy a PS3, which exceeded the 45% of Xbox owners looking to buy an Xbox 360 and 46% of GameCube owners looking to buy a Wii

Well...I guess there is a strong argument for brand loyalty. There's roughly sixty million PS3s (and Blu-ray players mind you) right there...how 'bout them apples?

Sony needs to drop the price asap, or advertise free blu rays with purchase to help it going though.
I know the ps3 comes with $70 worth of rebates with it, but lets face it. Rebates suck, and you need to deface the blu ray case to get it.

Even if 100% of xbox users were going to upgrade to the 360, the ps3 would still have quite a hefty margin on it with a mere 25% of ps2 users upgrading to the ps3.

Seems like the PS3 is selling quite well at its current price. I don't even own a PS2 but I am considering a PS3. I love my PSP and the idea of emulating that on a much larger scale with Blu-ray is quite cool. $599 is a steal for what the PS3 can do.

This is exactly how I feel, I'm absolutely LOVIN my PS3/blu-ray movies right now and i'm going to buy some more BD movies right after i get off work!!

Even if someone decides that 60 percent is a gross exagerration...hell, do the math.

Imagine if even say...20-25 percent of the existing, juggernaut sized PS2 userbase rolls over for a PS3 upgrade in the next year or so?

That number is absurdly high, even with uber conservative percentiles!

It's not even close, folks. There's no way HD-DVD will ever be able to counter this oncoming snowball once it's rolling down the hill at full speed.

The ps3 will pave the way for the cell and the blu-ray diodes to come down in price. This will in turn provide CE MFR's to be able to lower the prices of BD players faster.

This "War" has less than a year left in it before HDDVD goes ^^ up!
