Default PlayStation 2 to playback Blu-ray!!!

(Note: this was posted on the Video Games Section also)

Ok, before you scream, click here:

http://www.forbes.com/technology/fee...tiondisks.html

Ok the next generation of the PlayStation 2, SCPH-******, will only playback Blu-ray videos sometime in 2005. This way we can still watch blu-ray, & DVD-Video on the PlayStation 2. PS2 GAMES WILL NOT BE RELEASED on Blu-ray so users of the older consoles will still be able to play, but in that same press confrence, sony annouced that PlayStation 3 will use Blu-ray.

But will the movie studios have enough for this new PlayStation 2 to sell??? (I hope so)

(Xbox doesent have plans to use HD-DVD in future Xbox1 consoles)

Default PS2b or not PS2b?

... Whether the next version of PlayStation2 is called PlayStation2, PlayStation3 or EntertainmentEngine1, current versions of PlayStation2 can't play Blu-ray discs, and so releasing PS2 games which can't play on existing PS2 consoles would not make a lot of sense. Also, games that need the additional capacity that BD-ROM provides don't make much sense on existing PS2 consoles, but fit in with high definition video support on PS2b (or not 2b)/PS3/EE1.

At some stage in the future, existing PS2 games may be bundled on BD-ROMs - a PS2 sixpack for those nostalgia moments, for example, but PS2 games are currently too lucrative to kill off anytime soon.

Just so you guys know, the PS3 came out 2 months ago already! And yes, it did come equipped with Blu-ray, but no need to worry. There are a lot of studios backing this format, so there are lots of titles to choose from.

Cooter, I think you need to stop digging through the old threads and stop smoking whatever it is you are smoking.
