Up didn't have a Toy Story 3 Trailer. I saw it at the double feature of Toy Story 1 & 2 in Theaters in October. That totally ended the tradition of a new trailer from Pixar played in front of the newest release from Pixar..

Also, I have a feeling this will one day be made. Before Monsters 2 comes out I bet this will come back into Production. They only Canceled this because they have too many releases on their schedule. This was supposed to come out in 2012. You have "Cars 2 " (A worthless and unnecessary sequel) in 2011. "Brave" and "Monsters Inc. 2" coming out in 2012 and only a few months apart.

That is a first for Pixar! They never had a schedule this closed together. Probably to make the movie they wanted too (as the quality of the film) they would need more time, and with this schedule if they get done it just wouldn't be as good as they wanted it to be, since they would be rushing this in a tight schedule.

This was supposed to come out in 2012, but Monsters Inc. 2 is a guaranteed hit/Box Office success especially if they can get Pete Docter to come back to direct the sequel. So obviously they chose to make Monsters Inc. 2 first over Newt. Just give it time and it will be made.

Exactly. I don't doubt Pixar's ability to make good sequels but to me sequels are USUALLY done as a mean to juice a successful movie rather than a genuine desire to expand its story.

Just imagine how many 'Ups' and 'Wall-Es' we're missing in favor of sequels.

What bothers me is that I have the feeling Disney is forcing their hand. Instead of them rising to Pixar's level of creativity and excellence, it seems they're bringing them down to their level of mediocrity.

I'm probably exaggerating but but it's all about perception. And that's mine, right or wrong.

This is the thing I'm unclear on. To me it has always seemed like after Disney bought Pixar that Pixar was basically running the animation operations now. Isn't creative control over the animation one of the key things Pixar got out of the deal?

That is what was reported....but corporate politics can get messy, so who really knows what goes on behind closed doors.

This is bad news...if true. But I find it curious that with Pixar's (arguably) flawless record, that some are raising the sell-out flag. Generally speaking I would prefer original stories to sequels, but for me story trumps the other aspects.

I have a feeling that if this is true, it's just Pixar doing what no other studio would have the gonads to do - proper QC. Just speculating, but if Pixar is giving up on a film, it may just be that the production was turning out to be mediocre. Any other studio would cut their losses and release it anyway. Maybe this is just Pixar demanding no less than perfection.

That being said, the premise of Newt sounded like it had tons of potential .

It just had some teaser that showed zero footage unlike past Pixar films that had an Offical Trailer.

No, every Pixar film had a teaser before it...

Up teaser with Wall-e
Wall-e Teaser with Ratatouille
Ratatouille teaser with Cars
Cars with The Incredibles
The Incredibles with Finding Nemo
Finding Nemo with Monsters Inc.
Monsters Inc. with Toy Story 2

I don't think they showed anything before Toy Story and A Bugs Life, I don't think they planned that far ahead.

John Lasseter, the director of "Toy Story" and the dominant creative force at Pixar, will become chief creative officer of the two studios and the principal creative adviser at Walt Disney Imagineering, where he will help design attractions at Disney's theme parks. In an unusual arrangement given the hierarchical nature of Disney, Mr. Lasseter will report solely to Mr. Iger.

"We both wanted it to be that way," Mr. Iger said. When asked to elaborate, he added, "I don't want to really go into that."

...

"Obviously, Bob is the C.E.O. and the buck stops with him," said Mr. Jobs, "but John is working directly for Bob..."
As reported in the NY Times.

My memory is a TS3 "commercial". Woody and Buzz each build a TS3 sign, but there was no actual footage from the film.

Yeah, John Lasseter is the Chief Creative Officer as someone else pointed out. Of course I can be wrong about this but I don't think he has entire control over what gets done and what doesn't. He probably has more control on how it gets done.

But again, I think the best part of being creative is coming up with novel ideas, not merely expanding on already existing ones.

Yep--And TS1 and Bug's Life were too far apart (because they weren't as established yet to make a film every year), but we did get an abstract year-ahead teaser for ABL with the Disney film that year.
(But it's too small to see anything, unless you're watching it on the big-screen Blu-ray.)

And as far as the Sequel thing goes, okay, I've posted it enough times, I'm just going to ASK first:
Show of hands, for how many here do the words "Circle 7" mean anything? Just to get a sense of proportion beforehand--We may have to make one of the last two or three postings of it a sticky.

If you’re a fan of Pixar (who isn’t?), you’re probably aware that the studio cancelled development on Newt earlier this year. The animated flick was set to tell the story of “the last remaining male and female blue-footed newts on the planet” in 2012 — instead, we’ll get Brave and the sequel to Monster’s Inc. 2 from Pixar.
But look! Disney/Pixar has released concept art from the project, in turn providing a really provocative look at what might have been. Check out the pics after the jump.
Here is the official synopsis:
What happens when the last remaining male and female blue-footed newts on the planet are forced together by science to save the species, and they can’t stand each other? That’s the problem facing Newt and Brooke, heroes of “newt,” the Pixar film by seven-time Academy Award winner for sound Gary Rydstrom, and director of Pixar’s Oscar-nominated short, “Lifted.” Newt and Brooke embark on a perilous, unpredictable adventure and discover that finding a mate never goes as planned, even when you only have one choice. Love, it turns out, is not a science.
Disney/Pixar posted the art to their Facebook page with the following note:
As most of you already know, “Newt” is no longer in development at Pixar. However, that doesn’t mean we can’t share some of the Pixar artists’ amazing artwork with our Facebook fans!
I really appreciate the thought. I won’t pretend I can predict the quality of the eventual film from early sketches, though I’d suggest such is more meaningful with an animated film. I like what I see here — makes me wonder.
I grabbed just over a third of the images; you can check out the rest here.

I would rather have this instead of a sequel to Monsters Inc.

Cars was about the weakest out of all Pixar's movies........ That's the one that gets a number 2.

Drainage of original ideas -> sequels. However it's amazing how they've never considered the sequel that everyone wants! Incredibles 2
