Default Boycott the UK version of Blade Runner

Buy the US version instead. Once again UK customers are being shafted with the release of Blade Runner. The UK version costs around £18 and for that you get 2 discs and 1 version of the film (the final cut) and extras. In the US for around $28 (on Amazon anyway) you get a 5 disc version with 5 versions of the film with extras. Add postage to that for UK customers and that comes to around $34 and at current exchange rates that's roughly £17! So less money and a lot more value. You might argue that you don't need that many versions of the same film, but if you can get them for less money than you'd pay in the UK anyway why the hell not. Even if you only watch them once and even if the other versions of the film are only in SD it's better value. For such a sci-fi classic you should get the best version available.

The website bluray.liesinc.net says the US version will play on region B players and as most Warner films are region free as far as I know my fellow UK residents would be foolish not to get the US version.

I agree, it's ridiculous we only get the 2 disc version. I'm going to rent it instead and wait for the proper version to be released in the UK.

I've pre-ordered it from the US. It should be of a low enough value not to incur import charges (fingers crossed).

No doubt the 5-discer will turn up in the UK in 2008/2009 in an attempt to fleece the UK customer a little bit more

I've had mine on pre-order with amazon.com for months... I am greatly looking forward to it. Having all 5 versions of the film will be fantastic. However I do think that I'll probably only be rewatching the latest version on anything approaching a regular basis as I'm sure Sir RS will have done a fine job on it.

They have probably only released the 2 disc version in the UK to be competetive on price. Mistake IMO.

Atleast you guys in The UK already have all The Harry Potter films on Blu-Ray. It wont be out here in the US untill Dec 11.
That does suck that Warner did that to the UK version of Blade Runner.

Sorry for the Rant be fore hand, But.

The UK version of the Harry Potter films are selling in HMV stores for 25 pounds (~$50 each) where as the box set for the films in the US is $119 total (£60) . That is a saving of $131 (£65) dollars in the US. It is even slightly cheaper in the US to buy them seperately in the US from certain websites.

Even thought we got it first, there is no box set here , and they are getting every penny they can get, this is rip off Britain.

That is why I buy from the US.

Just ordered the US 5-disk set, probably won't be here for Christmas but I won't exactly be short of entertainment around that time.

When I ordered the film it did say that I wouldn't be getting it before December 25th. No big deal, no doubt I'll be doing far too much eating and drinking over Xmas to be that bothered. And as I'll be at my parents who don't have a Blu-ray player I wouldn't be able to watch it anyway. It'll be a nice New Year present for me to watch

Fair enough, it's much better value from the US.
But.. I try not to import so many blu-rays.

We need sales figures aswell.. for Blu to really show world dominance it needs strong sales all over the globe.

Do we really need a "Boycott Warner" thread at this point?

I mean, seriously? What with all the speculations of them picking sides?

A savvy consumer who wants to save a bit will do some online research and perhaps import the title from abroad. It will definitely save them a few quid. But to go as far as an actual boycott -- when the price itself will do the job, to a point -- seems excessive.

I'm sure Warner UK had their own reasons for this kind of pricing. Let's not make it any more difficult for them than necessary.

Very strange. A contact of mine at Warner UK did say that they'd be releasing both versions here too. But still no sign of it

Still, if the 2-disc version if £17.99, just imagine how much they'll be charing for the 5-disc version!

Just a shame the 5-disc verssion isn't coming out in the US until Dec 18th, not much chance of it arriving through my mailbox before Christmas knowing the postal service.

Final Cut is currently playing at the Ritzy in Brixton though ...

It's the same in Scandinavia. I'm a bit pissed off at this decision to first release a "cheap" version of the movie while the US get the full package for the same price.

I'm getting mine from the US and whoever made the decision for Europe can go f*** themselves. I've bought a ton of European Blu-ray discs so far so I have zero guilt for doing it. I will also do the same for the Potter movies.

C'mon guys, what's all this about? Everything we buy in the UK is typically the dollars equivalent price in sterling, why should disc's have to be different Not justifying it by any means, but nothing new with blu-ray.

Having said all that purchased ultimate brief case edition from amazon.com myself

I'm not saying boycott Warner, or this movie, just buying the UK version. If the release in both countries was the same then I'd buy from the UK (assuming the price difference after conversion wasn't huge). But when the US version is superior and compatible' for as near as makes no difference the same price, I refuse to be ripped off by UK overpricing if the option is there to purchase from the US.

Besides the Blu-Red ratio in the UK is roughly 4:1, whereas in the US it's 2:1, so buying from the US helps Blu doesn't it?

i must say i was really disappointed to see that the UK are only getting the 2 disc BD version which is odd considering there is a 5 disc SD version.

i was just going to order mine from play international £20:99 for the 5 disc US release. only 3 quid more than the standard dvd set.

It isn't the price that annoys me so much as the fact that the 5 disc product isn't being sold in the UK at all. They could ask whatever price they want for it, and we can choose which version we want at whichever price point, but why are they simply not offering us this product at all?

I'm a big fan of sci-fi, and Blade Runner is one of the most important movies in my collection to me, I want the definitive package on Blu-ray.

Can’t disagree with your comments there m8, thus the main reason I went to amazon.com for my choice.

Also sci-fi collector here and am dismayed by the lack of titles currently available. Also ordered the Omega man since we have no dates for it in the UK

Good news is I received 2001 and Close Encounters today
