Default DVI to HDMI

Hi guys,

I just received the new cable from MONO and need some assistance. I bought the new ACER laptop with Blu-Ray and when I plug in the DVI cable it gives me a error message and I can't figure it out.

It plays perfectly without the cable but once I insert the cable it just stops and I have to remove the cable to get the picture back.

How do I fix this??

Thanks for the help again.

Marco.

I'm not sure if this will help or not, but Vaio's have a similar problem, only difference is Vaio's use HDMI rather than DVI.

If you have a 720P TV, change the display settings on your laptop to 1280 X 720; if the TV is 1080 set the settings to 1280 X 1080.

That fixes the display error on a Vaio with a Blu drive, not so sure if Acer has the same exact problem though.

...and also, be sure not to be running your BD player program while plugging it in.

Copy protection is preventing you from going from DVI to HDMI.
Your display that has the HDMI is not going to allow it.

ok, quick question...

what exactly are you hooking the HDMI-DVI cable to? from the Acer to your TV and its not working?? what kind of TV do you have? is it HDCP compliant?

...the next thing I can think of is you have to tell the laptop youre outputting the video to an outside device...

Default Sony tv

I am hooking it to a Sony HDTV.

How do I tell the laptop to switch to HDTV??

Oh by the way.....when i stop the movie I do see the my laptop on the TV, so the cable
does work as a monitor cable.

should be able to go into the laptop control panel and configure the video output to your tv, though im not very familiar with your laptop. perhaps even right click on the desktop and go into settings...for display does it have your tv as an option?

you should be able to go through your control panel or that of your graphics processor and switch the settings to HDTV. Then set the res to the native one of your TV. That is how I have my PC hooked up to my 61" Sammy.

Default Tomorrow

I will go try this tomorrow on a few TV's.

Are not all HDTV's compliant?? I am about to buy a new TV for my
place in Panama and want to not make another mistake? The Sharp seems
to be my favorite at the moment.

I have the PS3 here also.....Time to buy a HDMI to HDMI cable for that.

Thanks for your help.

You didn't mention which model you have. I assume it's the Acer Travelmate 8210 (as it's the only one I know of with a BD drive). If that's the case, then you're SOL with your DVI port. The graphics chipset in that model does NOT support HDCP which is required for Blu-ray playback over digital connections. You can connect either an external VGA monitor or a TV via an HD component breakout cable and playback BDs that way, but the DVI port won't allow the playback. You can also try AnyDVDHD which attempts to defeat HDCP over the non-compliant DVI port, but your milage will vary with that method.

Hi,

When I was buying the computer they made such a big deal about that it had "D.V.I" and you could hook it to a HDTV.

They cable does work but no picture at all.

Oh well I have a nice expensive Monitor cable...

Thanks for all the help guys.

Ciao.
