Default DVI to HDMI?

Hey guys,just a quick question.
I purchased a dvi-hdmi cable to go from my digital cable box to my 50"
hatachi lcd.I was using a monster component cable, thought id be upgrading
using dvi-hdmi.Ah first impression after a day an a half of watching HD chanels and reg chanels is the dvi really kinda sucks,i would have thought the dvi would have been a slight improvment at the very least, but nope it looks very grainy and somewhat washed out.I bought a dynex 6' dvi-hdmi cable was
50.00 bucs at futureshop.Question is could it be cause i bought a cheaper cable, and maybe
spend a few more bucs for a better quality cable or will that make any difference at all?
I must say going threw the component cable my hd chanels looked pretty awesome. Thanks any thouhts?
