Default What's up with my LCD?!!

I bought an LCD about 2 weeks ago and I noticed something last night. Whenever there were dark scenes in the movie I was watching, I can tell that there were some horizontal very light white lines on the screen. These lines are always there, they don't move. These lines could only be seen when the scenes were very dark. Do I have a defective TV or could it be the cable? Should I just return the TV?!

What type of tv do you have? How is it connected? Does it happen all the time with every source or just one?

Sharp 46" AQUOS HDTV 1080P. I have it connected directly from my PS3 with a 6 Foot Monster HDMI cable. I only watch TV, PS3 and DVD on it. I haven't noticed if the white lines are in any of the other inputs, but it definitely appears when I watch Blu-Ray movies.

Check to see if you get the same lines while watching cable or if it's only when watching blu-ray on the ps3 input. If it happens on every input, then it's probably the tv, but if it's only with the ps3 then it could be a few things- either a settings issue, the cable is bad, the tv's input is bad...

Oh, so this isn't a common defect?

It sounds like a bad connection to me. It could be a loose HDMI cable, or could be a bad cable. It could be a dirty HDMi port.
HDMI is very very picky, but usually for me it goes out completely when there is a signal problem, however I haven't had that problem in months since I re-adjusted the cables.
It could be the input to the TV is bad as well. Are there any other devices the signal goes through (such as an AV receiver)?

Nope, at least not that I'm aware of. Try testing a few things I suggested and lemme know the results.

I'll try another HDMI Input and try other HDMI cables. No, at this time, I have it connected directly from my TV to my PS3, the TX-SR605 is on it's way though!!

+1

Definitely try a different HDMI input. If that does not work, try a different cable, hopefully of a different brand.

I have the same TV (46" model 62U)... and I notice as well sometimes there are faint horizontal white lines across a black display. Sharp!!!! You guys are pissing me off. I was impressed with the TV specs at the time, bought about 11 months ago... I don't think I would buy sharp again (unless they were nice to me) :-)

does anyboy else get a brighter line of pixels on a 2:35 or 2:40 movie just below the top bar and just above the bottom bar?

Yeah, I messed around with the backlight setting and the brightness and now I can't hardly see them. I got the TV for 1,300 cause of Black Friday, so I really don't want to return it, it doesn't really bother me now.

If it doesn't bother you anymore, that's great. What you can't see can't hurt you.

By the way, there are some defective Sharp TVs out there, which manifest themselves in light horizontal lines in very dark scenes. Google "sharp banding" and you'll see some people talking about it.

enjoy
