Default PS3 to get profile 1.1 for Christmas?

Engadget is running a story that a Christmas gift from Sony will be profile 1.1 for the ps3. The only mandatory option in profile 2.0 is internet connectivity. So if the ps3 can and looks to do 1.1, it will have full functionality once all the specs are really complete. This should end some red ants comments....

If this has already been posted, I am sorry I did not see a thread on it.

Not that this was as big deal to me, I could care less about extras, but it definitely puts to rest any arguments that the ps3 cannot do profile 1.1.

I Would beleive the PS3 would be 1.1 compatible since Engadget already CONFIRMED PS3 will support BD Profile 2.0

Nice ... Let the HD-dudes spin around - Blu-ray got the lead in movies and hidef-players.

I've always known the PS3 would be compatible with whatever the final "profile" thing turned out to be. When I first saw the list of things required for a profile 2.0 player I knew it wasn't just a coincidence that PS3 had all the things that was needed.

As far as the should have been done long ago stuff,... why? You only need a profile 1.1 player when movies that use 1.1 features show up which hasn't yet happened.

Because, then Blu-ray would have had a finalized spec, which is what it should have had from the beginning. No one should have had to wait this long for a profile 1.1/2.0 player to finally come to fruition.

I remember hearing that they were planning to add this. I hope this update will have it.
I suspect next week we will have this upgrade.

Meh, the HD DVD fanbois will be waiting somewhere between a longer time and forever for equal disc size and bandwidth.

When you know the difference between a specification and a roadmap, let's talk. Hint: Every specification of the Blu-ray format is complete up to 2.0.

And the first profile 1.1 title arriving January 1. We can cross off another red talking point - but it's still unbelievable how many people out there think the TL51 is a reality... Nobody ever listens.

what does that have to do with the fact we can't buy or watch a 1.1/2.0 movie/player? (for the most part)

Sony does love us afterall. I can't wait to see Resident Evil with the 1.1 features. I hope it includes DTS-MA audio as well, Fox has several titles where I would love to take advantage of this audio codec on my 805.
