Default Harry Potter movies to decide Warner's exclusivity?

Do you think that Warner will decide who to support on an exclusive level by the way the Harry Potter movies sell on each format?

It's probable that every title they sell will have an impact. HP could be the crowning title, though. But the others will be important, too.

I hope that in a way Warner has already made up their mind.

I really believe their Board has already decided.
If you look at it from a pure business standpoint there
really is NO way left for HD-DVD to win.
Studio and manufacturer support is overwhelmingly in favor of Blu already.

It's really just a matter of time before we get the press release.
Not if but when.

Somehow I think as long as nothing drastic happens saleswise, the decision has already been made.

It was mentioned that they will be watching player sales closely this holiday season (hopefully they'll count at least a portion of PS3 sales).

I'm sure HP will help consumers who are sitting on the SD/HD fence though!

Harry Potter is the type of series that could prompt more PS3 owners to buy the movies on Blu-Ray. (I'm talking about the few PS3 owners who don't usually buy a lot of Blu-Ray movies.)

This will be a gobsmacking victory for Blu!

I honestly don't think so. WB have got to look at the bigger picture. BD is doing much better than HD-DVD everywhere on disc sales. The only real battle appears to be in the US.

If WB joins BD then there is a very good chance that Universal would at least go neutral.

If WB joins HD-DVD then IMO they have condemed the hi-def disc market to failure.

It just seems easier to go BD to ensure a one format.

IF they have allready decided, then they should ship 4 times more Blu-Ray Potters then HD DUD's and this way "ensure" at least a 3:1 ratio for the Blu-Ray vesion. They can then site that ratio as the reason for their eventual Blu-Ray exclusivity.

I agree with the above post...for either HD format to survive the studios need to make the decision for the cust. Many such as Disney, Fox, Etc... already have. I think that Warner knows they need to make the smart and right decision and go exclusive Blu to end this war.

I seriously doubt that they are the sole factor in any way, shape or form.

They serve more as an indication of larger trends because it's very likely they'll do 250-300,000 combined sales this week

My thoughts exactly. Blu-troop, buy this movie, and seal the deal.

I agree. I do not think one movie this late in the quarter will be a deciding point.

I'll definitely be buying it this coming week, even the format nuetral friends I have are buying it in blu because of more supplements and they are all hi-def, they dont really care about IME or web-enabled content. And yeah, I think Warner will be watching this title closely.

I'm waiting this one out. I already have all of the previous HP films on DVD. I will not rebuy them all until the entire series of movies is availabe in Hi-Def.

I just know that if I buy all of the ones currently available in one Hi-Def format (I have both kinds of players), then it will be the other format that wins, thus gaining Warner's exclusivity, and not allowing me to get the remaining two movies that are yet to be made in that same format, and in order to have them all in Hi-Def and on the same format, I will have to buy all of the older ones yet again.

If you believe this to be true then please run out and buy the HD DVD version, and end this war with a Blu victory.

I think it's a given that any multiplatform titles are obvious litmus tests.
