I am wondering if Blu-Ray creams the amount of movies sold for the Harry Potters movies that are about to come out, do you think it will be game set match? I think with these movies coming out on both formats it will have a big impact on which way WB goes in 2008. WB did state that they will be watching those sales numbers very closely and with the recent BF week of Blu-Ray dominating it is getting really bleak for HD-DVD. I hope by March of 2008 somebody will make a big move and end this ridiculous war. The PS3 is helping out Blu-Ray in a major way, I personally know 3 people that got PS3's on black Friday for BD's and gaming.

The next few sales weeks overall for the formats, plus comparing Harry Potter sales, will probably be big factors for them.
December is going to be key. While I do believe HD DVD sales will increase slightly, I doubt enough to make a significant dent (mind you, BR will increase as well). |

It is most probable that the Harry Potter movies will prove to be the proverbial straw. All sales figures indicate that WB sells more Blu-ray versions of their movies than HD-DVD version. If after the initial sales of all the Harry Potter movies, many of which will probably be re-buys, and the numbers hold then WB will probably support only one format. Prolonging the war, they know only hurts them as it slows adoption of any HD format.

HP will be important, yes, but unless there's a much larger sales ratio than we've seen earlier, it alone won't have too much of an impact. Instead it'll just be more sales data for Warner, and have a contributing effect rather than a decisive one.

No. All those PS3 and DUD x-mas gifts new owners won't starting buying movies until 12/26 at the earliest. CES will be too soon after that for measuring that impact.

...I think Blu will beat Harry Potter 2 to 1, just like everything else. I think the Order of the Phoenix will be close, like 1.6 to 1, but still in Blu's favor.

Of course we also know HD-DVD owners pre-order more than the Blu side, while B & M stores swamp Amazon. I really believe WB has already chosen a side, but are giving HD-DVD one last chance to convince them to remain dual format. |

More like, even if they've picked a side they're still not going to give up the source of potential revenue holiday sales would give them. I see little point in speculation however, as all it's going to do is create rumors and FUD. Warner will pick a side eventually, but until that happens we'll just have to hunker down and wait.
