Default ps3 and surround sound

not sure if its the right section but my cousin has those surround sound units that come with the 5 disc dvd changer, and the the speakers plug into the sub then the sub plugs into back of the dvd player. well i got him a ps3 and not sure, could he still use those speakrs for surround sound? if so, how would he hook it up to the ps3? thanx a lot guys

If the main unit allows input from other devices and has an optical input connection you should be able to get surround. No lossless audio though I'm afraid as optical can't cope with it, the best I've had is the cut down DTS-HD @ 1.5mbps. Still sounds a lot better than just through the TV though

now by main unit, do you mean the ps3? sorry just not familiar with this stuff. could you use these speakers-->http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage....=1169512522471 without the dvd player and hook these speakers up to the ps3? thanks again

Nah I meant the amplifier built into the DVD unit.

The item you linked to does have 2 HDMI inputs so in theory you could connect the PS3 to it and then from that to the TV. However it may only have HDMI passthrough so you'd basically be sending the signal from the PS3 straight to the TV. To be honest I'm not that knowledgeable about this myself, but there are many people on here who do know lots so you should get the info you need soon enough Alternatively if you could get a demo in a store that should also answer you question.
