Default Dissapointed by Blu-ray support in Aus

I went down at my local store (JB hi-fi) and looked at the movies availible over there and i was dissapointed by the blu-ray section compared to the HD-DUD section on one side i saw all catalogue titles compared to the latest releases on the HD-DUD side they had movies like knocked up and other day and date DVD titles from universal and paramount while BD only had The Simpsons Movie which was the latest one and pirates 1&2 and a few other catalogue titles which wouldn't seem that impressive to a person looking forward to adopt Blu-Ray

Now u guys must be thinking that this is the stores fault for not storing the latest titles but Blu-Ray movies arrive delayed compared to when the DVD is released for eg Pirates 3 DVD was released 18 nov and the BD is coming next week and fantastic 4 was released like start of nov and the BD is gonna come this week which basically means that movie fans would've got the DVD as soon as they arrived and wont wait or wanna double dip therefore not a lot of BD's will be sold

And the title range isnt that wide compared to what ppl get in the USa while HD-DUD has almost got all the major titles over here except for matrix

And the studio support isnt that gr8 either Lionsgate and MGM dont release ANY titles in this part of the world and warner titles have no release dates on their movies except for a few selected ones which have been out for a while and the HP movies which are coming next week
So far only 3 studios are running the Blu-Ray bandwagon over her Sony disney which are consistant in giving us the same movies as the US and fox do thier part by giving the new releases and giving the catalogue titles 2-3 months after USA

All iam trying to say is the holiday shopping season already here and when ppl try and buy one of these new formats the HD-DUD side of movies will look more appealing to a normal consumer than the blu-ray movies

Yep that's why we only get the scraps at the moment. Until JB was apparently paid a bucket load of money to stock HD-DVD titles at my local JB HiFi Store (one of the biggest) they demo every Blu-ray player available in Oz, but not one HD-DVD player. They said they wouldn't sell $1,000 clocks and seem to be sticking to it.

I went to JB-HIFI yesterday, hoping I 'd be able to buy, 2001 Space Odyssey, Shining and Clockwork Orange. All titles, were supposed to be released on 5th of Dec here iz Oz. To my suprise, none of them were available for BD and I was told that release date was postponed until further notice.

It's no suprise until very recently the Panasonic BD10 sold for $2,600. No making a loss here. Now the PS3 is under $700 things are starting to move.

alexander , beerfest , deliverance , purple rain and troy were all slated for release in sep but they were postponed until now yet they are still missing in action as well as the titles you mentioned.

everyone is talking about how if warner goes blu its going to win the war well frankly maybe if they release their titles on time they might get a bit more support here.

@gamer4eva

Which JB-HIFI? Before thier support of HD-DVD I noticed that their Lonsdale St. store (near their Elizabeth St. store) had two very large Blu-Ray sections for a while. Since HD-DVD they have a large area for Blu, and a small area on the side of the shelf for HD-DVD.

The Burke St. store is about 50/50 with two smallish sections.

I've noticed that with some of the previous releases, too. Usually (perhaps with the exception of KB) I've seen them on shelves within a couple of weeks.

i was looking through the HD-DUD releases and these all were released on date as well as troy, purple rain, beerfest etc mentioned in other posts and also the blade runner is coming to HD-DUD only while the only warner titles that BD is getting till next march at least is the HP movies
IF WARNER IS READING THIS I'LL JUST SAY ONE THING WTF!!!!!!!!!!

Well, Blade Runner is coming out on Bluray too, so it is NOT an hd-dvd only release ... try to get it on amazon or something.

it happened at jb hifi they are a massive chain it's been reported at one store but ezydvd a massive dvd online store has taken the said warner titles off their sales list saying release date unknow while the hd dvd copies have been sold.

Blade runner is only listed as coming out on hd dvd when it was listed before as both blu ray and hd dvd.

if harry porter does'nt come out next week on blu then something is up until then who knows.

So at this point in time Warner Bros is exclusive to HD-DVD here in Australia.

Can't f#@$!* believe it.
