Default What Blu-ray you want to see that dissapointed you on DVD?

For me it's the ones that were release earily in the life of DVD and where not anamorphic, but for some reason they never got round to doing a re-release. These include

The Abyss
2010
The Thing

Also, for some bizzare reason, they released the first Adams Family movie, despite the fact they released it's sequel!!

Can someone out there please tell me why this never got released at all in the UK???

Actually, there WAS an anamorphic re-release of The Thing on DVD. I got it for Christmas.

True Lies, From Dusk Till Dawn are the first two non-anamorphic titles that come to mind.

I already got the one that disappointed me the most. Full Metal Jacket. the original release on DVD was Pan & Scan Only!

BYW - I got the Remastered anamorphic re-release of The Abyss on DVD, but I sure can't wait to get it on Blu!

The Abyss, True Lies, Deep Rising, Armageddon, Hercules, basically anything that never got an anamorphic release.

THE THING

I too was very disappointed by the DVD release of this. I found it very grainy. the sharpness between the snow and elements in it will be AWESOME on BD.

Armageddon (although it is one of the best looking non-anamorphic transfers I have ever seen), True Lies, Bad Boys (the superbit version was a MAJOR improvement over the regular DVD), The Da Vinci Code, The Thin Red Line (compression artifacts everywhere!), 1408, Evolution, Speed 2: Cruise Control, Scream, Requieum For A Dream... I am sure there's more...

Compared to blu-ray, most of my DVD's are already dissapointments.

However, when I now look at A Christmas Story on blu-ray I realize what an utter piece of crap they transferred onto DVD.

I have the 2004 special edition on DVD. It was great to have the "extended" version of the film and the separate disc with all the extras, but they must have done the transfer from a print that was several generations from the original negative. The image is very soft in many places. I remember the film having a sharp, crisp picture with good detail.

"The Chase" (1994) The widescreen version released to DVD isn't the OAR. The movie is 1.85, but the trailer shows it at 2.39. Even though it's now in widescreen, it's STILL formatted! Ain't that about a b--?! It also isn't in 5.1!

Spider-Man was disappointing on dvd but I already have it and the other two on Blu-ray so I am happy now.

Other titles would be Mission: Impossible and Six Days, Seven Nights. *Shakes fist at non-anamorphic widescreen movies*

Actually, FMJ was shot in Kubrick's favorite aspect ratio, Academy Frame (1.33:1). Warner pretty much was obliged at the to released it in the original aspect ratio it was shot in and not the theatrical released aspect ratio. The image was cropped down in theatre but opened fully on video. EYES WIDE SHUT, A CLOCKWORK ORANGE, LOLITA and THE SHINING were also shot like that and were presented in either 1.66:1 or 1.33:1 in Europe along with FULL METAL JACKET. Here in the States, theatres here cropped to 1:85:1.

Its an abomination that True Lies hasn't had a proper release. Hopefully it'll happen soon on Blu-Ray. I also concur with From Dusk Till Dawn (though there was a special edition that had the documentary of the making of the movie, not sure if it is anamorphic). How about The Color of Money? When I first bought the movie and I realized that it was non-anamorphic (once the movie started playing) I was pissed because on the package it says it is. Its a misprint. Other movies that I own that are non-anamorphic are Terminal Velocity (great one-liners) and What about Bob.
