Default samsung 1400 and lfe question

under the speaker setup menu there is a option for lfe. do i want to have that on or off? i read the manual but there is not much on it. i currently have 7.1 setup with all all large speakers (2 defiitive technology 7000 for the fronts and four 7002 for the sides and rears) also i have 2 seperate sunfire subwoofers. also all my towers have subs in them. i know the the lfe has something to do with the subs. thanks for the help

You want the LFE set to "on".

i did some research and i thought this option only mattered if i was running analog. mines hooked up via HDMI. so do i still need it on?

Set yours to "off" so that the Low Freqs will be sent to the Large Speakers rather than a separate subwoofer.

Can't you just hear a difference by trying both on and off ?

Why would one want to do that? Those Sunfires will do a far better job of handling very low frequencies than the Def Tech mains. LFE is the subwoofer channel - the .1 in 7.1.

You are right. I misunderstood the original speaker setup. Sorry. I just didn't read carefully.

Leave it "on"

No worries and welcome to the forum!
I see we're fellow Samsung sufferers - I mean owners - though I have the 1200, myself. Gorgeous PQ, but somewhat firmware-challenged.

I've got an issue with my Sammy 1400 that I got today, not sure if it's related to this particular issue or not. What happens is that I have the player output PCM being that I'm hooking it to my Onkyo 504 via Analogue outs. I can send out PCM and it sounds gorgeous. Been doing that forever with my phillips BDP-9000. When I switch to a TrueHD track (the whole reason I got the player) and have the player send out the decoded audio as PCM it only outputs 2.0. No bass whatsoever, driver doesn't have any output and neither of my surrounds output either. However when I switch back to PCM or DD, DD+ it goes into full 5.1 and sounds TONS better. Anyone got an idea on this???

ok, so after reading all the pages I decided to go out to BB and pick up a P1400 for 299.00 comes with 5 mail in disks I get to pick from 5 categories 1 movie each. I did the Firmware upgrade asap as I had the ISO already burned onto a cdr. from what I can tell my SD dvds look amazing. and the previews on the BD Cars look like nothing I have ever seen.

so on to my question.
I have a denon AVR-688 unfortunately it does NOT support HDMI audio
it supports this: DTS 96/24, DTS Neo:6, DTS-ES Matrix 6.1, DTS-ES Discrete 6.1, Dolby Pro Logic IIx, Dolby Digital Surround EX

so onto my question. should I have my audio set up as PCM or Bitstream?
does it depend on the audio on the Blu-Ray disk im going to watch.

p.s. tv is a Samsung HL-T6176S

Thanks, -=Jason=-

flomaster, how are you going to hook it up for audio? i don't know if the 1400 has analog outs, but if it does that would be my recomendation and then let the player decode internally

oh right now I can either use Coax or Optical either or. is one better than the other? if so I'll buy another optical cable from monoprice.com and retire my monster cable Coax.
