Default Should I upgrade surround sound system?

We are putting an additional room onto our house that will be the designated TV viewing room and I want to hook up a surround sound system. My current system includes these pieces:

Receiver: Sony STR-K502
Five Disc Changer: Sony DVP-NC600
Speakers: 5 (Center, 2 Front, 2 Surround) Small Sony Bookshelfs

Here is what my receiver and speakers look like (although not my auction):
http://cgi.ebay.com/AS-IS-SONY-STR-K...QQcmdZViewItem

Should I upgrade? My TV room will also consist of a 50" Samsung 1080p plasma and a PS3 for Blue Ray player. The room is about 12.5' x 14'.

I don't want a relatively low cost system, however also want decent quality. I don't expect to spend thousands on a top Bose system or anything like that. Anyone have suggestions on any good surround sound systems?

Whatever you do don't get Bose. Lots of better speakers for the money. Check out a website like

http://www.ascendacoustics.com/

For around $700-800 you can get a great sounding 5.0 system there. There are other places you should investigate...

The best bang-for-the-buck in speaker systems will be found via the online direct sellers. I seriously considered a few before narrowing my choices down to Aperion and Axiom and finally going with Axioms mostly because of the glowing reviews their M80 mains received. Aperion was very attractive as well, their products have also received rave reviews and they offer a 30-day in-home trial with shipping paid by the company both ways if you elect to return the speakers. You really can't lose with a deal like that.

Need to get a 5.1 or 7.1 system with a LFE
I got sold on the Onkyo Amps ( starting at $400 )
put $1000 worth of speakers, a $600 Sub and you've
got it for ~ $ 2000
Speakers need to talk to YOUR ears... so you need to go test drive
