If blu-ray didn't have the PS3 and everything else held constant... then... whatever. If ice cream sales and crime both increase in the summer, then ice cream sales *obviously* cause crime. It's the same crappy arguments regurgitated in new ways and applied to new topics so they sound new, but the bottom line is still a bunch of crap. |

It really is a part of the war and it really is making a difference and it really is almost single handedly winning it for the blu side. ![]() I submit that if you remove the standalone players and leave it up the gaming consoles it wouldn't even be worth writing a story about the ps3 is clearly dominating the HD market. Actually go ahead and let the HD-DVD camp keep the standalone players and just take on the ps3 and they will still be losing. ![]() Oh yeah and I did buy my ps3 as a standalone blu-ray player due to its ability to update itself. |

If PS3 gamers didn't buy movies for their PS3, and Blu-Ray and HD-DVD are tied in the standalone player sales, then that leaves the 2:1 ratio of software sales. Blu-Ray still wins.
But of course, PS3 gamers to buy movies for their PS3s. I'm proof as are others. The reds are just miffed at not having thought about including HD-DVD capabilities in other hardware. =/ |

This holiday shopping season could end up being the single most important battle this war and determine whether Microsoft, Intel and Toshiba or Sony, Disney and 170 other companies come out on top.
Shouldn't over 170 companies backing a particular standard tell you something also? |

I think the only reason HD DVD sales a player or two here and there is because its named HD DVD nothing else. More than half of the people I know refer to moves in High Definition as to HD DVD... I'm not worried. Uneducated people who buy an HD-DVD player will soon find out they made the wrong decision because when they go to the store and say "Oh, I can't buy Die Hard in HD DVD, or Oh, I can't buy Pirates of the Caribbean in HD-DVD... etc. etc. etc. Blu-Ray has the edge in sales, support and most importantly software! Forget HD-DVD... That thing its history...

Voted BLU, and as I always do, I agree with all of you with these statements. When I was buying my stand alone BLU player, I was debating on the PS3. I rarely play games, but do on occation. Unfortunately I made a hastey decision in buying my XBOX 360, I wanted to play some High Def games, I didn't realize that the POS didn't have HD-DVD playing ability out of the box. When I found out I was instantly put off by the HD-DVD camp. I tried the add-on HD-DVD, but it sucked. Sound Quality was crappy and just made my XBOX all that much bigger, taking up too much space. I'll play my games on the XBOX 360 and watch my movies on my BLU ray player. Too much money in this equipment to not use it. I'll never buy another XBOX, or microcrap gaming device. Sony has always treated me right, with only one exception. The Sony "Xplode" in car stereo was the worst POS CD player I have ever seen, but I'm still a Sony happy buyer!

The logic escapes me:
"74 percent of all Blu-ray players were sold inside Sony's PlayStation 3" "Blu-ray players are acquired by gamers who may also want to watch the occasional movie" "Blu-ray disc titles made up 72.6 percent of all high-def disc purchases" So 72.6% sales were driven by 74% occasional gamers? Wrong. -Numerator |
