I definitely plan to rent cause I love the film but if it's as bad as the HD DVD i'll pass on the purchase.

This is one of my two favorite films of all time, so I bought it anyway. Heck, I've had it in Laser Disc and DVD, now Blu-ray. If they improve it and rerelease it in Blu, I'll buy it then.

I just took a look at the screen caps, and yes they need a new master. But I didn't think it was a trainwreck either. I may still buy this one, and cross my fingers for a better release down the road.

Glad to see the video isn't as bad as I had read from other sites. Underwhelming for sure, but then again, this isn't the Blu to show off your home theater with anyway. I'll probably pick this up on Amazon at some point, when it goes down. After all, this will be the fourth copy I've owned.

I need some confirmation

Blu-ray.com lists this U.S release as region free?

Yet amazon details are warning me is it region 1(A) locked. I'm Australian so before I order it could someone please confirm which source is wrong?

Is it really region free? Thanks.

Field Of Dreams is definitely region-free for the U.S. release. It was released by Universal Studios, who has never region-locked a Blu-ray yet. Amazon's region information should never be trusted as a definitive source, most of the time they just use a default listing that is frequently wrong.

Thanks a lot, this puts me at ease. They may even be using the DVD info (out of slackness) which I recall was region locked. I used to have a DVD player that could read it though.

P.s part of me is so glad I necro'd this for this question. This movie deserves some more attention!

They're putting this out again? I recently got this at Best Buy for $7.99. If this is the same transfer with just a DVD and digital copy, I think I'll keep the copy I have.

I case anyone is wondering, BB has the current version for $7.99 and the new one on pre-order for $14.99.

Will the Universal 100th Anniversary edition be remastered? I know some of their titles in this series that have been released are going to be redone so hopefully this one will. If not, I will have to go with the current one.

The 100 Anniversary Edition is just a repackage of the first blu-ray release, but with a DVD, and Digital Copy included.

MLB Network ran a 25th anniversary special for Field of Dreams this past week for the All-Star break. It featured Bob Costas interviewing Costner at the actual cornfield ballfield still in existence today. Costner revealed some interesting nuggets in the interview, including the producers of Revenge threatening to sue him if he initially took the role. Revenge had kept being delayed and Costner was getting impatient, which is why he ended up in Field of Dreams.
