Cool My Speaker Setup, Help..........

I have Onkyo 606 reciever
Monitor 50s for fronts
Monitor 30s for rears
Polk CS1 for Center
Energy ESW-V10

I just want to make sure I'm getting the best sound out of my system I ran audessey and these are the speaker calibrations that it set the speakers up with:

They are all set to 80hz except the sub that is at 120hz and the volume level is 1 pass high way up. the phase is at 0 too

Fronts are -4.0 d.b.
Rears are 0.0 d.b
Sub is -15.0 d.b

Thank you for the help

audyssey adjusts these settings based on room dimensions and how close the speakers are to the setup mic. nobody here will be able to tell you if these numbers are correct. although the LPF for the sub at 120HZ seems a little high, you may want to try a lowering it to 100HZ or 80HZ and see if if sounds more natural

First off read through this thread from page 1, https://forum.blu-ray.com/audio-theo...ml#post4107548

also your sub volume level is to high, you dont want audessy to set it lower than -12db.

im guessing your receiver goes from -15 to 0 to +15 ????

If this is the case, audessy is setting your sub all the way down to -15 because the volume level is set to high on the sub.

First, it helps if you double check the speakers/subwoofer levels with an SPL meter and an external disc after you have run the auto calibration program. You should not use the internal test tones inside the receiver as they bypass any correction or equalization that Audyssey has performed.

Second, a Low Pass Filter (LPF) of LFE of 120Hz is correct. The LFE (.1) channel has absolutely nothing to do with the redirected bass from the small speakers that go to the subwoofer. The information in the LFE channel is put there by the audio engineers at the studio and extends up to 120Hz. If you lower this to 80Hz, you will lose the information from 80Hz to 120Hz that the engineers may have put there. At the same time, it is possible that some older DVD's may have full range information in the LFE channel due to incompetence or carelessness. You set the low pass to 120Hz to block any information above 120Hz in order to protect the subwoofer from distortion and/or damage.

You can find a lot more information in the following threads:

Turn the Crossover on the sub all the way up, and put the lpf of the lfe on the receiver to 120hz, also you have to rerun audessy everytime you make any physical changes to the speakers/subwoofer. That means any movement or wiring, or (knob turning) you need to rerun audessy

Please read the two threads I gave you in my previous post. Crossovers and phase are explained in detail there.

On the subwoofer, you turn the crossover all the way up to its maximum point to take it out of the picture and let the receiver control the crossover. Set the LPF of LFE to 120Hz in the receiver.

You may allow your receiver to use what the setup chose for you, but as Big Daddy already mentioned, it's best to leave your sub's onboard crossover control set no lower than 120Hz. The dedicated LFE channel material in the audio stream is provisioned for up to 120Hz material. Setting your sub's crossover below it results in a "hole" in your system's low-end frequency response.

If you have a subwoofer, all your speakers become small by default.

BTW, I'm pretty sure you ESW-V10 has a bypass switch so insteand of touching the X-over adjustement on it you can put the switch to bypass.

i have a silly question for big daddy. isn't 80hz the THX recommended crossover? and if it is, why would THX recommend a setting that results in a large frequency gap. i may be misunderstanding or possibly discussing a completely different topic

edit - i read your guide to bass management and i think it answered my question. but it left me with a new question regarding this statement, "If the calibration program changes the above settings, you can change them manually to above values. In general, increasing the crossover is ok. If you lower the crossover below the level that Audyssey calibration has set, Auddyssey will not apply its filters to those lower frequencies below the crossover point."

i have a Marantz SR6003 and Paradigm CT110 speakers and sub, and after running a 6 position audyssey calibration, the LPF/HPF was set to 160hz. i thought is was too high, but decided to leave for a week to see if i liked the way it sounded. i decided to manually change the LPF/HPF to 80hz after that week because every time Alec Baldwin was on TV, his voice could only be heard from the sub. i moved the LPF/HPF down in increments of 20 until i could hear his voice coming from my center channel, which ended up being 80hz. i assume by manually lowering the LPF/HPF the audyssey acoustic EQ will have no filtering on frequencies below 160hz. how would you recommend i correct this? is it a bad idea to run the audyssey calibration with the sub turned off, and manually adjust the sub level and LPF/HPF after?
