I am also considering between the 605, 705 & 805.

I think the main differences between the 605 and 705 are:

#1 - 2 vs 3 HDMI inputs
#2 - 705 has THX, 805 has even more options for THX
#3 - More power for speakers

Most people I know have gone at least with the 705 if not the 805. 605 is cheaper, but the 705/805 is more future proof. Especially with the 3 HDMI inputs.

I have a 605 and a coworker got an 805. 805 does a few extra things, but he really got it because it had THX and the 605 didn't. Personally, I went with the 605 because it can do everything I want it to do for $400. With the 805, you almost double the price and it doesn't do anything else that I can't live without until the next time I have to upgrade my system. I have 7.1 hooked up via HDMI v1.3 to a 61 inch 1080p DLP Samsung, PS3, and a Wii. I couldn't be happier. Sounds amazing.

I'd go with the 705. I've heard of bad video issues with the 605 using HDMI. As far as a dual player, I'd read a review first. www.soundandvisionmag.com should have one on their site for the Samsung model. Memnoch, do you have video issues with the picture quality? That was why my brother got the 805 instead. He picked it up for around $769 on Amazon.

i have a 605 and haven't had a single issue with it. She gets a little hot, but as long as she has open air around her she's fine.

On the other hand, I've heard of a lot of problems with the 705. I've heard of people returning their 705 for 605 because it wasn't compatible with their ps3 and such. Don't take my word. Do a little research. I think I'm right, but could be completely talking out of my ass.

Hope this helped

Question for those who have bought one. Do any come with an HDMI cable for output? Or must you buy one?

Also, regarding the PS3 problems, I think its only related to Component out issues and not HDMI in HDMI out. As long as you stick to HDMI out you are good. I think.

I Have the 705 and I am using it with my PS3 (G0GB) for now and I am using HDMI cable and it works perfectly fine. The sound is very nice as well as the video quality. So far, I haven't had any issues with it and I have been using it for nearly 2 and half months now. I definitely recommend it.

On the other hand the 605 and the 805 are very nice too I am sure.It just depends on your budget. I just got 705 because its less priced than the 805 obviously but still has the THX cert. so incase in future if I get THX speakers, I don't have to upgrade my amp.

By the way, here in Edmonton, Canada the 605 is somewhere around $700, the 705 is $999 and the 805 is around $1499. So consider yourself pretty lucky that if you are in US, you have pretty good deal.

Not sure which amp you are talking about but my 705 did not come with the HDMI cable. I don't think any of them do. Not sure though.

I just got a 705 to use with my PS3 and it has worked fine with the PS3. No compatibility problems that I've encountered or even heard about. From what I've read, the 705 has a fan that the 605 doesn't that helps it run a little cooler. There are excellent threads and FAQs for the 605, 705, and 805 at AVS.

I also went with the 705. I just couldn't justify the price difference to the 805. But between the 605 and 705 it was a no brainer for me.

3 HDMI inputs, Standard def up-conversion to 720p. THX Certification. All worth the $200 price difference to me.

So far the 705 has been an excellent addition to my home theater. I highly recommend it. Works flawlessly with my PS3.

I have the 705 hooked up to a ps3 and i could not be happier. Go to monoprice and pick your self up some of the $5 HDMI cables. The cables work perfect. DO NOT be suckered into buying monster or any other high dollar cables. These $5 cables work just as good.

Also make sure you have good air space around your reciever. Mine gets border line hot to the touch after a couple hours. And that is with nothing around it at all.

I purchased the 705 because I tired of my 605 being backordered..
Although the 605 carries heat comments, I have no such problem
with the 705 ( see above re: fan )
No cables come with the units
check out monoprice.com

I love it sooooo much, I just asked santa for a 905 for the living room

i own a 605 and i have both audio (popping noises) and video (horrible upconversion, completly ruins the picture) problems. going back today to trade it in for a different one, possibly sony.

What does THX certification give you?
