Default blu-ray 33 gig layer

i know that there has been a 200 gig disc with 33 gig layers
so did the bda make single layer only 25 gig so studios would have to go to 50 gig? or do these thing have nuthing comon?

This will not be possible to use for movies, 33GB/layer disc has a tighter track pitch than the 25GB/layer disc. The current B/V won't be able to resolve pits that small.

The TDK 33GB layer disc was a development that came out well after the specifications had been set and agreed upon. If this came out 12 - 24 months earlier and the technical hurdles were not great. They would even have 200GB disc's as the standard. The only problem is we would still be waiting for Blu ray to be released. 50GB will hold most movies without too much trouble. 200GB would be very nice for computer backups, but I will gleefully take 50 over 30 any day.
