Default PS3 Profile 1.1 theory

HI guys,

There has been lots of talk from the hdduders about if ps3 is used as a blu ray player and the ps3 isnt counted in the hardware sales.

so my theory:

sony would be able to track on there website how many people would update there ps3 firmware to make it profile 1.1.

this would show and prove how many people would be using as a blu ray player as normal gamers that wouldnt buy it for movies would not bother updating the firmware because it would not effect there game play at all.

just a theory anyways

I don't believe you can access the PSN unless you update. Also, there would be further updates in the future.

You are forced to update the firmware since you are not able to use the playstation network store without the current firmware.

Nice idea but I assume you don't own a PS3? The PS3 firmware upgrades is pretty much a one-way street that contains a whole bunch of new features in each of them, you go from 1.x to 2.0 to 2.01 to 2.10, there's no way for Sony to track how many of these people actually upgraded for the profile 1.1 capability.

nah...just more FUD. But the PS3 puts alot of pressure on HD-DUD because it's hard to really classify since it does quite a few things well especially after this latest update. So they would rather not count the PS3 so they can be more numbers competitive.

That's kind of hard to quantify. If a PS3 user wants to for instance go to the PSN store to download demos of games, the PS3 will insist you update your PS3. This means people who might not ever use it for a Blu-ray player would update to 1.1 anyways.

It was a good thought but blubb is right so it doesn’t matter if those who have a PS3 don't use it as a Blu ray player they still have it! This means that regardless to how many owners utilize the Blu Ray player we will still dominate the market when it comes to Profile 1.1 players. This is the beginning of the end folks - Blu ray has leveled the playing field, built up a stronger Army of Blu soldiers and will prevail over the duds.
