Default 25gb disc?

It seems that a 50gb disc is a given on every release for blu-ray. I just wondered if anyone knew when the last bd-25 disc was released?

Fairly recently, I am pretty sure it was from WB. But I do know Edward Scissorhands was single layered.

Kung Fu Hustle is another title. Most new BD will be in 50 GB but if you want to know if older released titles were on 25 GB then simply search for that title in this website and read the specifications.

the only reason i thought of it was that i saw that Mobsters was coming to hd dvd and that it was single layer. I thought that was odd since everyone likes to talk up the size advantage of blu-ray that they would release a 15gb disc at this point in the game, although it may well be a good presentation.
I do remember that about Edward Scissorhand now that you mention it. I wonder if the encode had been done before fox stopped putting out titles in anticipation of BD+ since it is one of the few mpeg2 bd25 releases i've seen in a while from major studios. I also found the hills have eyes 2 on a bd25 but it's done with avc.

BD50 manufacturing is still much more limited than BD25. There will always be some BD25 titles. No reason to waste space if it's not really needed. (Heck, even for long movies, AVC and VC-1 can be very efficient; they both have a fairly low threshold before the point of diminishing returns hits.)

Anyway, some relatively recent BD25 releases:

I Know Who Killed Me
Oldboy
High School Musical 2 (Extended Edition)
License to Wed

Underdog came out this week and is described as a BD25...

I think they still release single-layer DVDs so I guess BD25 will always be there... Just as long as they don't compromise PQ and put lossless audio on it, I'm fine with it (most of the times, I don't really care about the extras)

Absolutely. Why waste a space if it's not being used. Just as long as they max out the bit rate.

I personally feel BD25 is akin to a single layer DVD 4.77GB disc where SP mode gets you two hours vs 1 hour at XP. A variable bit rate could fit a a 90 minute movie on BD25 with "SP+ type" bit rates. MUCH better than that 15gb trash I got with "The Polar Express". Great movie with poor bit rates.

I would be surprised if Warner doesn't release Batman Begins and V for Vendetta on BD-25.
