Default Is Predator Going To Be a 25GB disc?

The Japanese import is a mpeg-2 25GB disc. So for the American release it's going to be the same technical specifications right? Or do they change from country to country?

Chances are the U.S. release will be the same as the Japanese release.

With this being released in a couple of weeks, you'd think we'd know by now what size disc and what features are on it, but apparently not.

Greetings,

I received it yesterday for review. MPEG-2 single layer BD-25....

I previewed it. Don't expect much form the video presentation. The DTS HD MA lossless isn't bad.

Regards,

And the Forgettable Month of April continues for Bluray. I hope that Month will just come and go...there is going to be a Bluray lull for me in April.

It's a shame, but I was expecting that. It is Fox, after all.

We should already be passed this kind of stuff, but hopefully come this summer and beyond we start to see some top-notch overall (PQ, AQ, and Extras) catalog releases from Fox.

I'm guessing, like many other Fox and MGM titles, this falls into the "we were going to release it much earlier, but it got delayed and we didn't use that delay to make it any better" category.

I may still rent this, as it's been a while since I've seen it, but there is no way I'm buying a BD-25 Mpeg-2 no extra blu. Disney and Warner have much better stuff being released that can have my money.

This title was obviously done long ago and apparently is the same as the Japanese encode. Fox hasn't used MPEG2 on a transfer in a long time. I have no doubt Fox will release this title multiple times on Blu-ray.

Well unless there is a reason to upgrade I will have to pass on this title. Its too bad because I really wanted this. Come on Fox, high bit rate AVC encode please.

As long as it looks and sounds good I really do not care if there are no extras on this title.

Thats exactly what I'm saying, it has to look better than the dvd, and I don't mean marginally.

I highly doubt you will see a different encode for this film.

I personally can't wait until the US release so that I can start reading people's opinions on the transfer.

And if this BD was loaded with extras, you would still have the "choice" not to view any of them. Whereas I would have the "choice" to view them. Everybody would win in such a scenario. But alas, it's not provided by Fox.

It has nothing to do with Fox, and everything to do with it being a low-budget, 1987 movie shot on location on cruddy film stock.

It cost less than Star Wars (which was mid-low budget for its time) 10 years later ($15 milllion for Predator vs $17 for SW)

Just like Robocop, it's unlikely to ever show any signifigant improvement beyond this
