Default Anastasia (Fox Animated) - 3/22/11

Anastasia Blu-ray

Anastasia Blu-ray Review

via The Digital Bits:

Quote:
...20th Century Fox has announced a few more catalog titles for release on Blu-ray on 3/22, specifically geared towards younger and family audiences. Among them are the animated Anastasia, Because of Winn-Dixie, Dr. Dolittle, Flicka, Robots and The Sandlot (SRP $24.99 each).
I love Anastasia (as does my daughter) - it's one of my favorite non-Disney 2D animated films. Glad it's finally getting a blu release.

edit: Just noticed an earlier thread on a "Fox Family Wave" that included this. I had only searched for threads with "Anastasia" in the title. Delete/merge if you must, but I think this title probably deserves its own thread.

This is good news.I am more excited about The Sandlot to be honest but good stuff.

Used to watch both these films with my Bother and Cousins.

I must have been 14 or so at the time with the Sandlot and older with Anastasia was that 97 ?

awesome, also one of my faves in the non-disney category.

but I guess I'll wait to see if a swedish edition will be released (like both the swedish dub and the original audio equally. grew up with the swedish but watched it in english when I got the dvd a couple of years ago. so I alternate between them)

Perhaps this brings us one step closer to a Titan A.E. release. Fingers crossed!

This was one of Don Bluth's better efforts. Now I need his films, "The Secret of NIMH," "An American Tail," "Titan AE," and the original "The Land Before Time."

Count me in for Anastasia, and Sandlot. Dr. Doolittle too if it's the original Rex Harrison version, but i'll bet it's not.

Yeah, remember when the 90's 2D-Wannabe craze was just taking hold after "Swan Princess", Dreamworks hadn't even released "Prince of Egypt", and Disney was paranoiacally trying to "destroy" every bit of "competition"?

IIRC, nobody was even originally planning to see this one in theaters if not to thumb their nose at Disney's "sabotage" stunt of re-releasing Little Mermaid in theaters the same week this one opened.
Turned out not to be so bad after all--Yes, every Don Bluth film is Sorta Creepy , but this one turned out to be...less creepy. (And even plays as a better 90's-nostalgic imitation of the Disney Glory Days than even "Princess & Frog" could manage, although Tangled still has it beat.)

I haven't seen this animation. It will be a blind buy for me.

Now I really want "Prince of Egypt", "Spirit" and "Iron Giant" on blu-ray.

I doubt it. According to what Blu-ray.com states, it seems it'll just be a 1-disc Blu-ray. So, prepare to complain. (thankfully, I still have the DVD.)

Hope this is a digital-to-digital transfer. Should look much better than the DVD.

Plus, this is the first Don Bluth film to be released on Blu-ray. Bring on the other titles, FOX!

I watched Anastasia on Dvd with my kids over Christmas break and it looked terrible. This is one I will get along with Sandlot.
