Default Photoshop/Image help

Hey all . . . ok, first of all I want to send out scans of Blu-ray covers. When I scan the cover and print it, it comes out too big. First of all, I would just like to say how extremely fu*k stupid this is. End of rant. I know Blu-ray covers are typically 3118x1748 (this IS pixels, right!?), but when I try to resize it to that, Photoshop says the dimensions are like 6x2 inches, which obviously is too small. This seems like it should be a pretty straight forward process, but apparently there's something I'm missing. In short, how do I resize the image so that when I print it out I can cut it out and just put it in the case and it'll be the right fuc*king size. Somebody please help me out, I'm about to throw my god*amn computer out the window

Edit: Seriously . . . I consider myself a smart person. Nothing this fu*king simple should be this difficult. Why can't somebody just make a photo editing program where you grab a corner and it tells you ""The image is THIS big" and you make it how damn big you want. I guess that would make too much sense.

There are two options when you are resizing, "pixel dimensions" and "document size". To get to this screen go to Image>Resize

The amount of pixels is all dependant on the resolution of how many pixels/inch. If it is say 300, then it takes 300 pixels to make one inch when printed.

For printing, you will want to change the document size, not pixel dimensions. Adjust that to the size you want printed out. Depending on how big your document is already it might scale the image up or down.

Then you should be able to print the correct size. Just make sure you don't have it selected to 'fit page' or whatever that option is when you go to print. Hitting print preview will usually give you a good idea if you are printing at the right dimensions. Hope that helps.

well if he uncheck this option then he may end up having an abnormal looking picture .. this option ensures that the newly resized image is still in the same proportion as the original image.

you may have a point there...I was just thinking resizing to 3118x1748 ...only way I could get that dimension was unchecking it.

But I see your point...

I am working on this myself. I plan on hosting cover art so if anyone wants to contribute, let me know.

As for the sizes - read the following:

There are 2 types of cases:

USA R1 - Viva

European R2 - Amaray

The sizes for Viva cases are 3118 x 1748 pixels with a 12mm spine. The sizes for the Amaray cases are 3189 x 1772 pixels with a 14mm spine.

Size your images at 3118x1748 (fits cases with the embossed bd logo without issue). You can re-size them up with out any noticeable distortion. Same as going down. Very little if any distortion.

If you want a program that does nothing but images - check out ACDSee. The best out there.

I scanned all of the Harry Potter films and they worked fine at 10 1/8 x 5 3/8 . . . somebody scanned a Die Hard cover for me and at the same size it came out jacked. Maybe he scanned it weird or something, I don't know. Pissed me off, wasted ink and a perfectly good piece of photo paper.
