I'm sure I chimed in already but didn't feel like going through the thread to see for sure. Anyway, I liked it and also use it as a demo disc.

I remember buying and reading the book back when it was released about 10 years ago, it has been one of my favorites ever since. I've never seen the film adaptation though I always meant to, so I "previewed" it last night before I bought the blu-ray

One word...WOW I absolutely loved it. So well done, very creepily crawly and the first horror film to genuinely get under my skin in a long time. One of the best horror films of the modern age, puts your Conjurings, your Paranormal Activities, and your Insidious' to shame

What I loved about the movie was that the author of the book wrote it and flipped everyone's fates around. Kept those who read the book, which is incredible, in just as much suspense as those who didn't.

Read it. It's fantastic. Makes the movie looks like a kids movie.

Yuke, this piece of crap? Cardboard characters who are impossible to care about and gore that exists only to pander do not good horror make. I sincerely apologize to any Mayans for this film's existence.

Every movie deserves a Blu-ray release, but I'd strongly recommend caution on this one. Watching it might just ruin your day.

To me a horror movie can never have enough gore & of course, opinions.

It's one of my favourite horror modern horror movies. Definitely in my top ten for post 2000 horror.

I loved the book as well. I think it helps that the script is written by the author of the book and the movie directed by his brother.

Default 'The Ruins' coming to Blu-ray!

I don't believe Scott B. Smith and Carter Smith are related.

Edit: not only can I find no evidence that they're related the LA Times says there's no relation in their review of the film:

http://articles.latimes.com/2008/apr...ment/et-ruins5

They also grew up in different states.

Same here. I got the book as a bonus with the dvd when that came out, so I saw the movie twice before reading it. As great as the movie is, I did like the book better and wished they would've kept a few things in the film,
[Show spoiler]mostly the vines talking and mind****ing the victims
. That just gave it that little extra evil to push it over the top.

Yeah I agree, as is often the case the book had so much more that could've been used in the movie.

I enjoyed this one. I'm glad there is an alternate ending included as the theatrical one was kinda bleh.
