Default PS3 resolution question.

Sorry for the noob question. One of these days I'll figure out all this resolution stuff.

My TV is 720p/1080i. And I notice when I set up the PS3 it defaults 1080i as the best/maximum resolution. I just have one game so far. NFS: Carbon. And on the back it says "supports 720p". So is it best for me to keep my PS3 output at 1080i, or should I manually take it down to 720p. Or is it downscaling the game anyway? Thx for the help.

Thx for the fast response. And then 1080i is what bluray movies will play in right. I read in another thread that bluray movies wont' play in 720p on PS3's.

I did try this the other day, I set it to 720p and tried a Blu-Ray movie... automatically went to 480p.

I was kind of puzzled about that though. So I decided to turn 1080i back on. However, it still look great in 1080i even though I heard it's better in 720p.

yea just leave it in 1080i, for 720p games it will automatically switch, and bluray movies will stay in 1080i. Also the main ps3 menu will be in 1080i.

The only thing that I switch is between hdmi/component. For some reason when I play PS2 480p games they look much better over the component output. Then I switch back to HDMI for PS3 games/Bluray movies.
