Default What about recently released d.v.d.s being re-released?

What will be the situation for d.v.d.s that have been released recently or nearer the time before Blu-Ray is the standard format for releases? Will movies released around this time get transfered to Blu-Ray relatively soon or will we all have to deal with huge sets of discs for serieses as they are as only things released after Blu-Ray hit the market get the treatment? My main interest was in Blu-Ray d.v.d.s was that they would be able to make both t.v. series and movie series into as few discs as possible. I have thought that it was just absured how much space would need to be taken up with collecting such things which is why I have waited on making such purchases.

At first, Only new videos will be released to peak a demand of the consumers. Over time I see companies releasing older stuff depending on the demand .

If you look at the 89 HD-DVD list sheduled for release Qtr 4 2005, Qtr1 2006 you'll notice it's a mixture of old, new and as yet unreleased films, (i.e. just at the cinemas now).

I haven't seen it and I am not sure of their strategy but if they want the wide consumer market to adopt this technology faster, it would make sense to release maybe exclusively new and yet unreleased movies and stuff so that wider consumer market has something to look forward to. It just doesn't make sense to release movies that most have or have seen on dvd at first since few people would bother with what they've seen. After that , depending on demand anything else can be released.

The sort of person who will be an early adopter, is also likely to be prepared to pay a hefty premium for it. I would suggest that they will be as happy buying Gladiator or Star Wars in hi-def as they are one of the latest cinema releases. Especially as there's always a chance that new films will be a dissapointment. Personally I only replaced my video collection when the dvd was £10 or less, in a promotion etc. I'll probably approach high-def in a similer way.

IMO many of the first titles to be released on DVD will be among the earlier releases on Blu-ray and HD-DVD.

Why do you think Star Wars was released on DVD?

George Lucas said, many times, that the original 3 would NEVER be on DVD until all 3 movies had been released...

But, Georgie saw the writing on the wall with the 2 new formats. DVD will be going the way of the laser disc, and there will most definitely be a demand for a ton of old movies to eventually make it to release in a HD format.

Will it happen quickly? Well, for some videos it will, those that can benefit the most from an HD re-release. I would expect the old Harry Potter films to show up at the same time the newest one is release in HD so people will re-buy or buy for the first time the entire set. Wait to long, and the market may not be ideal.

But, re-releases in HD will be analyzed carefully by marketing staffs a lot brighter than me... all about where the $$$ flow.
