Default TV on screened in porch....

As part of our renovations at the house, we are adding on a 12' x 12' screened porch. We are having an electrical outlet and cable outlet installed in one corner of the porch.....they will be elevated about 8 feet up on the wall. Our hopes are to have a TV installed in the near future. Has anyone ever done this before? What TVs will be best for this? It will be elevated enough so that the TV is well up in the canopy of the porch (the ceiling gets taller the closer you get to the house), so I don't think we have to worry about driving rain getting it. I do live in South Carolina however, so humidity may be a factor. Any help or pictures on what you have done is appreciated. Thanks!

I don't think it's a good idea to put a tv outdoors even though it won't be exposed to rain/snow like you said. It'll still have to deal w/ temperature changes, humidity and alot more dirt/dust. Now if it was an addition to your house that would be climate controlled with insulated walls like every other room in the house, then that would be fine but in my opinion the tv won't last long under those conditions. I'm sure someone else will jump in and offer their thoughts as well.

you should put a projector in your house point it out the window(be sure to clean first) then bounce it off a mirror and then another so its not backwards and watch it off the second one? lol i dunno but i wouldnt put a good tv outside either

Too many unfavourable variables to contend with... unless you mount a rack and keep the TV inside, ready with the mounting brackets attached, until you know the conditions are favourable and bring it out just while using it?

I have a LCD 30inch Westinghouse on my screened porch, works fine, been out there for about 7 months now, mine is actually well under the roof line, so there is no chance of it ever getting wet, and I live in Florida so it isn't ever that cold as well. Nice to chill.....hammer back some beers and watch some football !!!!!, I would do it but don't spend much on the tv.....I didn't
Mine is also wall mounted right on the CB/stucco about 8 feet off the ground

I know this is a very old thread and am wondering if now several years later if any of you notices problems with the LCD outside? I know there are weatherproof LCDs available from at least 3 vendors but at 3-4x the price I am considering just picking up a standard one and putting it outside. The porch is completely enclosed with no chance of rain but the TV will get humidity - I live in Florida. I am considering buying a long extended warranty (which I never do on electronics) since standard LCD + warranty is still a lot less than a waterproof/humidity proof TV.
