Default Blade Runner Ultimate Edition

For some reason, it did not occur to me at the time I ordered it that the Ultimate Edition was numbered and limited!

That was indeed a great surprise... now I'm pondering if I should even open it.

#99432 here.

The only funny thing was in the Amazon package, under the shrink wrap of the packing card was a HD-DVD flier asking "How do you experience HI-DEF", why BLU-RAY DISC of course!

Having never seen this movie before and buying the Complete Edition, I would say to you, "Don't open it!" Not because it will lose value, but because you still have time to send it back. This was one of the worst movies I've ever seen. It's boring and drags along, the story seems incoherent at times, the video and audio have been overrated and there's just nothing in the movie to get excited over. I thought Harrison Ford was supposed to be a bad-ass in this movie...all he did was get his ass kicked. Oh, and I appreciate you making this thread so that I may rant in it.

This is a classic. I can't believe you didn't like it. Did you understand the movie at all? Also, don't forget, this movie is 25 years old. I personally thought the Directors cut (1st disc) looked and sounded amazing.

Well, this movie will not be everybody's cup of tea. Although I consider Blade Runner among the all time great films, some folks (who have grown accustomed to the type of "reality" expressed by the Jason Bourne type of character) may be disappointed because Deckard "gets his ass kicked" by several of the replicants. The ideas explored in the film (e.g., what does it mean to be human?) may also go over some viewers' heads.

Don't worry, 25 years ago lots of people had the same reaction.

It happens to ambitious films all the time. Thankfully, over the years the true gems always float up to the top, and the shallow hits of the day sink to the bottom.

Of course, people are hastier today, more eager for instant gratification -- which doesn't bode well...

To add to that fact is that they were replicats made to be stronger and quicker because of the "offworld" work they were created for. To imply that Deckard was going to "kick everyones" ass would be unrealistic. That's why thay gave him a big ass pistol--to protect himself! When he had to go head-to-head physically, he couldn't match up.

This film was done in the "older" true scifi thought. Placing humans--with all their faults and goodness--in other technolgical/alien settings. They were not done just to create louder explosions and whizbang special effects.

It's a wonderful movie.

Ofcourse, Deckard himself ends up being a replicant ... or so is speculated.

Oh, I've never had a doubt I love this movie, it was pretty much the mother of all dark future sci-fi film noir movies but like when it was released, it had a selective audience.

Blade Runner is often mentioned as the inspiration of many modern movies, even anime like Akira and Ghost in a Shell.

The movie also features great work by Syd Mead and has become almost a standard of how the future looks with many movies.

And then there's the Vangelis soundtrack.

The big philosophical question of course, at the end of the movie is "Is Deckard a replicant?"

Like movies that have come before and those after it that question our humanity and what makes us human... are we real or is this all a dream?

Has anyone seen any of the box-sets appear at Best-Buy or any other Brick/M. location?

Not so far, I went to the stores last Tuesday to get a look at what I was going to get in the mail but didn't find it at the BB or CC near me.

They had the collector editions though but not the Ultimate briefcase version.

I saw the briefcase with the standard DVD's at my local Best Buy. No Blu-ray or HD DVD though.

Couldn't find any Blu sets at any of the Northern Colorado BB stores... but there were one or two copies of the reds on the main end-cap.
Sales person mentioned that everyone was asking for the Blu's and the reds haven't moved. Nice to hear remarks like this even if I couldn't find one for myself.

Trust me, it wasn't a matter of understanding. It was simply a matter of keeping me entertained. It took me three attempts to finish it, all of which after I soon fell asleep. There has always been a byproduct of Sci-Fi movies called action...this one didn't have it. But there's no denying that it looked pretty good for a movie that came out about 25 years ago, especially considering it was such a dark movie.

That implies more negativity about you than it does this film, for virtually anyone else who's seen it.

I just can't begin to count the ways this statement is just wrong...sigh, I guess all scifi movies can't be Transformers or Independence Day.....

I guess I can understand; I had the same with 2001 Space Oddysey; yet a lot of people I talk to claim its one of the best scifi films ever ... but I've never been able to watch it for more than 30 minutes

Finally, a not narrow-minded view of this film.
