Essentially in November and December, the PS3 effect has netted roughly 750,000 BD SAL sales @ roughly 25% attach rate(3 million PS3s @ 25%).

That's pretty insane.

PS3 is only 50 dollars more than XBox which can't play HD-DVD movies.
All PS3 needs is to release games that can sell as many as Halo 3

What I think is great by looking at the graph showing that PS3 is doing just as good as the X360 did in its first year is that when the X360 came out, there was no other "next gen" platform to compete with it... Now, there is the Wii and the X360, but still, the PS3 sells just as well as the X360 did ! That's good news to me ! It's its first real christmas (with a nice price I mean) so I'm sure that it's life starts in 2008 with big titles like Metal Gear Solid 4, Gran Turismo 5 Prolog, Final Fantasy and other big titles coming to push up the sales of the Black Beast

Wii is just a fad.
Once every home in US have Hidef TV (the way the LCD is flying off the shelf it won't be long before it reaches all US household) PS3 will beat Wii and by that time the price would be very affordable. I remember PS2 wasn't that cheap either when it came out.

I am very happy with my PS3, which I got in Jan 07. It was worth it just to play Blu-ray. But it has been hard to get gamer friends to go SONY if they already have the 360. There are quick to point out, rightfully so, on the lack of games. As in the movie A Bridge to Far, this is one bungle that has added months to the blu/HD DUD war.

Well the PS2 flew off shelves Wii style when it came out.

I think you'll see a positive effect of HDTV penetration towards PS3, though at this point I think Nintendo has earned the right to say it's not just a fad.

The PS3 will sell the best next year. MGS4 and GTA IV will sell a lot of PS3's next year and another thing is look at the 360's that might tear up and persuade people to get PS3's.

The PS3 will surpass the 360 in sales next holiday season if:

(1) GTA IV on the PS3 is comporable if not better than the 360;
(2) Microsoft does not include a built-in HD-DVD player;
(3) MGS4 remains exclusive and Little Big Planet delivers the coveted family and children market, and take back Wii's demographic.

All of these are pretty much home runs and for sure bets for the PS3. However, Sony has dropped the ball a few times and the quality of GTA IV and success of LBP really will indicate if the North American market is going to remain a 360/PS3 stalemate or if the PS3 takes over, as it already has in Europe and Japan.

I'm one of those stats. I picked up my PS3 and don't plan to game at all.

I also picked up TMNT BD for the kids and Galapogoes (sp???) for my wife. Both have exvellent PQ.

And the sound (TosLink) is much better than DVD (less compressed).

What part of '07 wasn't stellar for PS3? 8+M sold in basically one year...many great games were released...firmware 2.10 with PiP...~2% defective rate...

'08 will be even better with the release of GT5, FFX13, Haze, etc on the PS3 front...Sleeping Beauty, Narnia, and Nemo etc on BRay...

As an avid PS3/BRay supporter, trust me, '07 was spectacular and '08 will be a banner year for both!

it'll be comparable, but the 360 version will sell better
hd dvd will never be included inside the xbox
mgs4 exclusive? for 08 thats a for sure. who knows after that tho. but we all need to hope little big planet delivers

i'm not saying the ps3 had a bad year. but ever since the ps3 was released we've been hearing..wait till *fill in the blank*. well..isn't anyone else getting tired of waiting?

gt5 will only be in demo form next year, ff will probably slip to 09, haze..yeah..we need more fps'

i love the ps3, think great things are coming..but there are so many if's still.

I think it's going to be tighter than the HD DVD fans think it is. Those Sony and Sammy BD SALs have been selling at a good rate in the most important places, Best Buy and Circuit City.

At last check they were the best selling players.

However, despite that, I don't see how BD SALs would beat HD DVD SALs this holiday season. It'll be closer than they would like. Also, 3 million PS3s = 600,000(20%) SALs, That's enough to carry BD right there and have lots left over.

i love the ps3, think great things are coming..but there are so many if's still.

I will never get tired of hearing predictions on when and why PS3 will become #1 next gen console in the world...

Let us not forget some secrets that Sony has up their sleeves...

PS3 will outsell 360 for sure in '08...and perhaps even the Wii...my Target had 4 in the case yesterday...go figure...
