Default Setup for 1080p output

How do I get my system to recognize the 1080p without me having to instruct it to do so? My XBR4 / PS3 setup continuously reverts back to a output of 720p.

I have all the capabilities of 1080p and I can go into the PS3 settings and manually change this back to full HD... however I am quickly becoming disgusted with the repetative process.

(I know this is a basic question and yes I have dug through the forum archives in search of this answer but have had no luck... if we could refrain from the "Hey you're a dumbass" etc etc comments it would be appreciated.)

Thanks for any suggestions.

When you go in to manually change to 1080p, are you also selecting everything else? maybe youve already tried, but just check 1080p and leave all else blank?

Now, when you say it reverts back to 720p...is this during a game? or bluray movie?

also, how do you turn on/off your ps3? (if you hold the power button on the console too long it "resets" the Video input...

I use my remote to turn on/off

just an idea?

Last night I watched Pirates in 1080p... switched over momentarily to watch some of the UT ASU bowl game. When I switched back to HDMI input, it gave me an output reading of 720p. I did not shut the system down at all... ???

I will go back and check the rest of the settings (I turn the system off via the remote).

Makes me wonder what I am getting resolution wise. I have a Panasonic 42 HDTV, a PS3 and an Onkyo 605. Hopefully, someone will be able to let me know how to see what signal is being displayed.

I have a PS 3 hook up to a Sony 720p.Now when I turn the system on with the PS 3 controler...its show as 1080i on the PS3 menu, when I play a game or download any Demos it plays at 720p, is that how its suppose to be.PS 3 to Tv is hooked up by hdmi.

there should be some type of "display" button on your TV remote. Should show you the signal coming in.

Im guessing in your inititial HDMI settings, you must have 480i/p,720p,1080i selected.

Settings - Display Settings - Video Output Settings - HDMI

keep in mind that majority of PS3 games natively output at 720p. So most likely the game resolution will be at 720p (unless its true 1080i/p game), and Blu-ray movies will likely display 1080i. (in your case)

This is quite normal, so nothing to worry about. (if you want everything to be just at 720p, then un-check 1080i)

Many thanks for the reply. I took a look the Panasonic remote and did not see such a thing. I am most curious as to what the TV is displaying.
