First download the latest firmware updates for the ps3, then reset it back to factory defaults. Once you do that then try setting the resolution to 1080i first and see what happens, if that works then try 1080p. Also are you passing through a reciever and what kind of HDMI cable are you using?

It might be your cable, despite what some people think there are cables out there that can only pass at best a 720 signal.

If you run out of things to try , try replacing the cable.

Casual Killer is correct, about 3 years ago I had a 42" 1080p Sony and bought a cheap HDMI cable from Walmart and I could not get my Sharp BD over 720p. I changed the cable and everything worked fine.

Im going out on a limb here because Ive never used a Samsung, but according to Cnet.com, the max "input" resolution is 1080i.

Granted, it might display in 1080p, it only accepts up to a 1080i signal. Kind of a bummer from the consumer standpoint.

whats the exact model number?

My first thought was that he was using cable that's not capable of 1080p... But shouldn't he still be able to select something higher than 576p?...

He said 5 series so I assumed it was the LN50A530. No idea about the unchecking but I'm putting my money on the cable.

Me too.

There is an A530 and a B530.

Not sure what the differenice is, but the B530 does accept 1080p...im thinking the A530 does not? (or Cnet is wrong...as usual)

I checked the OM on the A530 and it says it accepts 1920X1080 through both VGA and HDMI...

So basically the HDTV is at fault, crackin? To OP: if you had just bought the HDTV, return it and slap the salesperson.

Now you do ONLY have an HDMI cable hooked up right? No other cables? One person I helped once had both HDMI and RCA video cables hooked up and was on the wrong Video input (RCA cable) and thought he was looking at the HDMI cable input.
